Off we go again, and straight in this week:
Talking Heads Temptations, The Thin Lizzy Toto Travis
Quite a few others to choose from as well. Haven't given it too much thought as there are so many you'll all invariably ignore me anyway!
Lastly, as we're getting dangerously close to Week X, I've been giving it some thought and we can either go for bands/artists beginning with X, at the risk of having some weird sh*t making the disc, or we can opt for:
1. Best runner up; 2. Best band comprising/beginning with a number.
My personal choice would be the latter of these options, but if everyone could make their feelings known when voting this week, I'll tot that up at the end as well.
Cheers

For Week 'X', Sandy, I would very strongly favour going for a band beginning with the letter itself. There are as many possibilities to suggest as, if not more than, in, say, Weeks 'I' and 'Q'. And bands such as XTC and X-Ray Spex, from underground beginnings, certainly went mainstream.
I wouldn't be too fussed about acts beginning with numbers, given that they should have been eligible in weeks covering the letters with which their numbers began. The idea of including a runner-up appeals, though. Could we perhaps have a 'Week 27' for that?

Agreed, Maccy, Andy Partridge and XTC fully deserve their chance to be included on this great collection in my opinion. I also agree to a week 27 vote for the 'best of the runner-ups', possibly as a limited edition 'iTunes-only'-style bonus or hidden track!

For now, it's T-time... and shout-outs for: The Teardrop Explodes, Teenage Fanclub, Tindersticks (indie with orchestras!) and The 3 Johns. Plus a couple of unheralded acts, in the soulful Sharon Tandy - think Dusty Springield with a mod edge, and you're getting there - and Welsh Language activists, Texas Radio Band. And The Trembling Blue Stars - if only for their gorgeous Abba On The Jukebox, whose inclusion on our CD might at least have made up for the result in Week 'A'... But my vote this week is an easy one, for the first band I ever truly adored: T Rex. In truth, the group's classic output spanned just two years (1971-73) - but its influence was immense, not only within its own glam genre but also on punk and Britpop. Compare and contrast Get it On and Metal Guru with, respectively, Cigarettes and Alcohol and The Smiths' Panic. Talking of the Oasis hit, Marc Bolan hit the bottle in a big way for three years, before making an acclaimed comeback, and being revered as a New Wave Godfather, in 1976. It was doubly tragic that he was to lose his life, when still under 30, the following year. Who knows what else he might have achieved, had he not died young - but one thing is for sure: the legacy lives on.

Time to T off with the T's...
With you Macc on The Tindersticks
I'd also add:
Tiny Monroe - sadly only made one album, Volcanoes, but what a cracker. Cream Bun is a fabulous single, but all the tracks are strong Martina Topley-Bird - spans hip hop and indie pop - and does it very well, I might say Turin Brakes - are they classed as a guilty pleasure? Tribe Called Quest - for the nostalgia of Can I Kick It played at dodgy Stocky nightclubs like Coco Savannah's!
Close second is Throwing Muses. Brilliant band who helped launch the Pixies, but were quickly overtaken by them. Kristen Hersh has also released some great albums (and I think I missed her off my 'H' shortlist. Tsk.)
But the winner for me is Teenage Fanclub. The King and Bandwagonesque are excellent albums. I didn't think Thirteen was as bad as the musical press at the time, but what do I know. Lovely C86 jingly jangly guitar rock pop at its best!

A mention for 'Ten Years After' with the brilliant Alvin Lee, 'Three Dog Night' and 'Taste' (Rory Gallagher's band before he went solo).
For me it's 'Thin Lizzy'.
Had the pleasure of seeing them a couple of times including Quaffers in the early 70's and met them there too. In a drunken state, I invited Eric Bell for tea but he never turned up.
Great band. Great live. Great Albums and great singles.

Honourable mentions for:
The Travelling Wilburys Talk Talk T-Rex The Trashcan Sinatras Traffic (Dear Mr. Fantasy is an absolute classic)
...but my vote goes to Talking Heads. David Byrne is a musical genius, on either side of the mixing desk, and there aren't many of them still around these days.

Just to add, I think I'd stick with 'X' for the initial letter although you could stretch a point and include artists who've gone solo, eg Morrissey (spit) who is ex-Smiths.
