Well, not a good start on home turf in 2015. Hopefully, our first article of the new year may prove a tad more enjoyable...

Good afternoon everyone, and Happy New Year!
If you were here on Boxing Day and purchased this fine publication, you will be aware that I am half-way through revealing the winners of the County Heaven Awards 2014 (still wearing my tux), and it’s now time for the Heavener-based awards – which, let’s face it, is the bit you’ve all been waiting for! So, straighten your bow-ties, practise that gracious loser face/polite applause, and let’s get underway:
Thread of the Year – This was a tie between ‘C.H.U.M.S.’ (the A-Z of our favourite music) and the Poker Tournament.
Funniest Heavener – For those of you who regularly struggle through the ‘humour’ of this article, you’ll no doubt be surprised/appalled to learn the winner was... erm... me.
Quiz Master of the Year – There could be only one winner, and that was Downy with his superb Prediction League.
Achievement of the Year – The publication of our Yearbook and funds it raised for charity.
Then, following some honourable mentions (of which there are too many to... erm... mention), we got to the big one: “The Hatter in Macc Award for Heavener of the Year”. And the winner was... (drum roll, please)... Hatter in Macc! A thoroughly deserved winner and all-round top bloke.
So then, King Maccy, any new year’s resolutions? I don’t know about detox, I think I need to ‘de-tux’ as I’ve been wearing this damn thing since the middle of December... ahhhh, that’s better.

I’m not great with resolutions, Sandy. For me, they tend to go in one year and out the other…
Welcome to the ‘Lambs’ of Tamworth, who will no doubt be relieved to read that we more than used up our season’s quota of sheep gags when playing Ramsbottom in the Trophy last month!
Today’s visitors do have a place of sorts in my heart, as it was the reverse fixture in August at which I made my official match-tweeting/reporting debut for the Club – and benefited, journalistically speaking, from having a dramatic, last-minute penalty-twist to reveal. Hopefully, this afternoon might see me report on a ‘double’ – although whether it would be County’s first of the season, or a second, depends on the outcome of our recent trip to Bradford that took place after the printing deadline.
Finally, a warm Heavenly welcome to County’s new signing, Danny Glover, who took his Edgeley Park bow in the Boxing Day draw against Colwyn Bay. Years after Brett has gone, it’s great for us Hatters to see up front another ‘Angel(l) in the Outfield’!
Enjoy the game.
