never picked up on quickspace (were they 'quickspace superport' at one time?) although i quite liked stereolab.
with no other q's coming to mind, i will confess to being brought up in a household in which queen ruled. i vaguely remember 'bo rhap' being on the telly every week and also actually really like, in descending order 'you're my best friend', 'under pressure', 'killer queen' and 'don't stop me now'. i loathe most of it, particularly all the anthemic shite, but i reckon those i listed are great songs. and despite being a lover of scuzzy, half-arsed indie guitar, i love the sound anita dobson gets on his solos on 'bohemian rhapsody'. so them then. sorry sandy.

On second thoughts I'll go for Queen. I suppose I like all their stuff really but Bohemian Rhapsody is the stand-out. Watching that video week in week out every Thursday on Top of the Pops around Christmas in 1975 is a memory that will last forever.

never picked up on quickspace (were they 'quickspace supersport' at one time?) Yeh - that was them, exile. Their Supo Spot collection is a good place to start, if you want to hear more... albeit, obviously, without any pressure to change your vote for this week!

Notwithstanding their decision to play Sun City in the 80s it has to be Queen musically. Freddie Mercury was one the ultimate rock performers, and blessed with a fine voice too.

so them then. sorry sandy ars, mate bloke I used to know, what have you done! Queen? Seriously? How could you? Listen to the death of quickspace (full album on youtube) - it's a fine album. I suspect it won't make a difference, even if you change your vote, but you might find a new band to enjoy. My vote goes to quickspace.

Queen are one of those polarising bands aren't they. I quite liked the early stuff but loathed Bohemian Rhapsody. I've never heard (or heard of) most of the other nominations so I'm going for one of the better bands from the psychedelic late 60s in Quicksilver Messenger Service.

I feel I should clear something up. It's not that I dislike Queen per se, but Bohemian Rhapsody is the most overrated song ever and, if Queen do win this week (which I shall not begrudge them as I accept I'm probably in a minority here), I shall fight my another_ruined_Saturday off to make sure that song isn't on the album.
With that in mind, here's the first update:
Queen 5 Quickspace 3* QOTSA 1 Quicksilver Messenger Service 1 Quiver 1
*I'm assuming here that Rog has switched his vote from Suzi Quatro as that was the impression I got, but perhaps you can confirm, Rog?

Bohemian Rhapsody is the most overrated song ever I can't argue that it's been overplayed and over-hyped, and I'm not it's greatest fan either, but the most overrated song for me has to be either Dancing Queen or Mamma Mia by ABBA. Complete and utter, undiluted 70s schmaltz. Those 'songs' make me want to vomit through every available orifice.

ouch! * i can't honestly vote for quickspace as i've never heard them. i actually do really like 'you're my best friend' and 'under pressure'. there you go. i'm indie cindy every week (apart from my 'd' being duran duran), but i guess i'm now out in the road with my lighter in the air. f*** it - if this what happens i'm going wear leather trousers and do 'radio ga-ga' hand claps at every opportunity... *and the flag waving smiley was a bit live at red rocks too!
