apart from a brief dalliance with the orb, twenty-some years ago, all i've got is of montreal. own several of their albums, but have only got round to listening to the most well-known one, 'hissing fauna, are you the destroyer?', and it's ace - wordy, ridiculously titled songs turning out to be catchy in the extreme (see 'a sentence of sorts in kongsvinger', 'the past is a grotesque animal' and 'heimdalsgate like a promethean curse'). barmy but great. those other albums can only be a let-down.

As it looks likely that the Big O will be the big 'O', I'll throw in a vote for Oasis.

Archie: by my calculation, OMD have drawn level with The Big O!

Oh well, it's about time Sandy earned his keep had the chance to contribute. For the second half of the 90s Oasis were bloody good (and Noel Gallagher continues to produce top stuff) so I'll stick with them.

I can honestly say that I won't be disappointed with either OMD or the Big 'O' winning this one, both are top drawer.

A final plea. Just listen to Tubular Bells. A 19 year old who could play a few instruments coupled with early seventies technology. 25 minutes of genius that launched Virgin records and Richard Branson.
I rest my case.

Admittedly Roy Orbison only had 60's technology but he was blessed with a voice that even Elvis admired.
OMD had 80's technology and used it to its full potential.
But as musicians are sometimes referred to as artists then Tubular Bells is a masterpiece.
I rest my case.
Again.
Maybe.

You make a fantastic case, Mr Downunder, but you're gonna need two more votes to give that plea a chance of bringing home the bacon!
