About time this CD of ours got with the funk... it's OutKast for me.
Hip hop isn't right at the top of my favourite musical genres list, but there is something special about the laid-back lyrics and uplifting vibe that we get from Andre 3000 and Big Boi. Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, their first album, and Aquemini were landmark efforts - ahead of the more recent, electrofunk-meets-soul output heralded by the release of Stankonia. The duo even out-Princed Prince on Ms Jackson, a track from the latter long player.
They are best known for Hey Ya!. Rightly so, too - it's one of the best singles of all time, and beloved of the Family Macc on long car journeys. The NME described it as 'a monumental barney between the Camberwick Green brass band, a cruise-ship cabaret act, a cartoon gospel choir and a sucker MC hiccuping "shake it like a Polaroid pic-chaaa!", backed up by the cast of an amateur production of The Wizard of Oz... sort of'. And you can't argue with that. Well, one could try - but wouldn't know where to start!

Alternatively, gazza, what about that act that liked to dress up as a bird of prey at night and vacuum-clean the house?... Or Kestrel Man Hoovers In The Dark

Ohio Players and The O'Jays deserve a mention but my choice is an easy one.
It's the late, great Roy Orbison for me.

OMD and Roy Orbison are up there but it's Mike Oldfield all the way for me. A true musical genius.

O my, not much happening with the 'O's this week.
Octopus - A to Z is a pretty good album. They liked to pack in lots of instruments, espcially brass, so sound a bit like James in places One Thousand Violins - late 80's indie band from Sheffield. Halcyon Days is a really good track Orange Deluxe - indie band from the early 90s. Vodka, Doughnuts and Dole is a glorious album Ooberman - another indie band, this time from the late 90s. You can download their entire back catalogue for free from their website! Ou est le swimming pool - a pet shop boys-alike band which are pretty undemanding, but a good listen
In the end, and with not a great deal of enthusiasm, I'm going to go for: Beth Orton. Trailer Park is a fine album. It is more about the associated memories than the quality of the music for me this week.
