What a farce. Blatter fails to win 2/3 majority so instead of the revote that should happen his opponent withdraws

I think it's about time UEFA grew some balls, because this is one piss take too many.
Crooked old bastard. I told you, he'll die as FIFA President, and even then they'll have to prise the envelopes from his cold, dead fingers.
Bent.

well platini told him to resign last week didn't he? blatter said 'no', and platini pretended he'd asked if blatter had watched 'grand designs'.
UEFA are the only power that could stand up to him - you couldn't get much more ridiculous than a world cup without europe...except maybe for a european championships without europe...

If UEFA pull out of the World Cup and put on their own competition I think I know who the sponsors and TV companies would go for ?
Umm ! Spain vs Germany or Mexico vs Morocco ?
No brainer.

A World Cup without one of the former champions would be an inferior competition but if UEFA in general pull out you would not only lose 5 former winners but also the reigning champs!!

Cant see it happening but we need a breakaway 'Kerry Packer' rival to FIFA and a new World Cup with UEFA and other countries aligned to the new body.

blatter is quoted as saying yesterday " i am the president now. the president of everybody". christ alive. sounds like i've made it up, but i haven't. I know I've already said it, but Blatter is the tip of a very big iceberg. FIFA is crooked from top to bottom, how else would he be voted back in? The day Blatter finally steps down will be a good day I agree, but it will not rid the organisation of the corruption. For him to be still in charge suggests many like-minded individuals within the framework, so I think a complete revamp is needed. Rebranding won't change much either, we need the formation of a brand new governing body in my opinion.

Instead of a rival competition, couldn't UEFA could just run the Euros every 2 years instead? Euro 16, Euro 18, Euro 20, Euro 22 etc until the rest of the world realise it isn't even half as lucrative without the main players.

For the first time DYKE appears to be talking sense, and predicts that Blatter will be gone in 2 years.
Did they have had a huge bonfire before the FBI and Swiss police arrived....

To bastardise a Mr Burns quote, let's Ieave the FIFA suits to wallow in their own crapulence. FIFA feels like a big Ponzi scheme. One day it will all come crashing down. Sadly, it won't be until after the top man has sailed away in his yacht. They say you can tell a lot about someone by the company they keep. On an unrelated note, I see that one of the first people to offer their congratulations to Septic was Vladimir Putin.

Saw this posted on MMMB.. Sepp Blatter threatens to take World Cup place away from Uefa teams:In what may be more bad news for England, Sepp Blatter wasted no time raising the spectre of his European opponents forfeiting a place at the World Cup following his controversial re-election as Fifa president.
Blatter also indicated Uefa, presuming it does not carry out its threat to boycott the tournament in protest at Blatter’s win last night, could lose one of its spots on the world governing body’s executive committee after promising to reward Oceania in his victory speech in Zurich.
That Executive Committee is due to hold an extraordinary meeting this morning to discuss the number of slots each of its six confederations will have at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Europe currently has 14 at the next tournament, including that of the hosts, Russia – more than twice those of any other Fifa confederation.
Uefa president Michel Platini said on Thursday that number was “a red line that will not be crossed”. But Blatter insisted yesterday it was not fair that Oceania had no guaranteed places, with the winners of its qualifying competition having to play-off against a country from another confederation – usually South America.
“We have to do something for that,” said Blatter, who previously promised extra slots to Africa, Asia and North and Central America. “That is not good for the solidarity in Fifa.”
Blatter added of the ExCo, on which Uefa has eight seats – almost a third of the total: “We must have a better representation of the different confederations and the number of members of confederations shall have also a repercussion in the organisation of the committee.”
Had Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein beaten Blatter yesterday, he would have pushed for the World Cup to be expanded. But Blatter said: “I will not touch the World Cup because the World Cup is too important.”Read more hereHe's a maniac.

More details of the voting are starting to emerge. It would appear that up to 18 European countries (including Spain, France and Russia) voted for Blatter but many of the senior South American countries, such as Argentina, voted for Prince Ali so a EUFA revolt isn't quite as clear-cut as we first thought. The situation has come about by the one member one vote system that was first abused by Havelange in the 70s and refined by Blatter to its current state. The fact is that FIFA is a political organisation rather than a sporting one and politics in the vast majority of countries is based on patronage and tribal/extended family affiliations. No-one in Africa (and, to be fair, in much of the 'developed' world) sees anything odd in receiving money in return for favours and can't see what all the fuss is about. It would be pointless any individual country taking a stance and it will have to be a breakaway organisation that includes most of the nations that generate revenue and sponsorship. Not unlike the formation of the Premier League, it needs to progress in secret and effectively present a fait accompli to FIFA. To do that it needs to attract all of Europe bar Russia and its satellites, all of South America, Mexico and USA, Australia, Japan and China. To get round the ludicrous situation where Gibraltar has the same vote as Germany and the Turks & Caicos as the USA, there needs to be a full membership and an associate membership. If all 209 FIFA members joined, I'd see something like 100 full members (changes every 4 years based on world rankings) and the rest associate members. The World Cup would feature a preliminary competition to produce 28 associate members who would go through 2 rounds of home and away knockout with the full members to produce 32 countries for the competition as is. I'd also award the Finals to a region so that maybe 8 countries could share the matches as with the 2020 Euros. Much less incentive for bribery and corruption and keeping more countries in the loop.
