At last!
Greatest stories of debauchery and televisions flying out of hotel windows. Brilliant manager - Peter Grant. Stopped promoters ripping off the band & getting 90% of the money. Brilliant bass player, John Paul Jones - 'Black Dog' & 'Ramble On' for example. Superb album sleeves, (inc best albums to have under your arm on the way to your mates house/parties). Greatest debut album of all time. Best concert ever attended. Greatest guitar riff of all time - 'Whole Lotta Love' Best drummer of all time - John Bonham - 'When the Levee Breaks' for example. Greatest band begining with letter 'L' Best guitarist of all time, Jimmy Page - 'Dazed & Confused' for example. Best concert never been to, O2 Arena, 2003. Greatest lead singer in a band - Robert Plant - 'Strairway to Heaven' for example. Best American Import I've ever purchased - 'Whole Lotta Love' (the single). Equal best (of 2) tattoos I have. Best Album track of all time - 'Stairway to Heaven' Best live Band of all time.
Yes, my choice for this week is:-
Lulu.
No, of course not, it's the one and only,
Led Zeppelin.

The Killer - Jerry Lee Lewis.
Led Zep were great, loved the Lightning Seeds, Level 42 were quality too, but nobody in this category beats the Killer, still blowing them away on stage at the age of 79.

A mention for kd lang and Lindisfarne but the only choice for me this week is/are Love. The sublime Forever Changes is in my top 5 albums.

Great voice, and one of the best Bond tunes of all time in 'Surrender': which should have been the main theme for 'Tomorrow Never Dies', but someone in their infinite wisdom thought Sheryl Crow's song was better....

Another interesting week. Before this thread started, I would have expected that 'ver Zep' should walk it. Now, reading other suggestions, I am less sure.
And I have another name to throw in here... cue drum roll...
A-wop-bom-a-loo-mop-a-lomp-bom-bom!
Little Richard gets my vote - mainly because, without him, music of the last fifty years or so would never have been what it was. Pretty much every genre that you may care to name, and the way in which it is performed, can be traced back to his songs and his style. He called himself the 'architect of rock and roll', which in one sense was typical of his showmanship - but which history now bears out.
If I had a second vote this week, it would go to:
- either Low, for their breathless acoustics and beautifully sparse 'slowcore' approach - as well as an ability to cover any and every act, including the Beach Boys, Bee Gees, Dylan, Floyd, Smiths (check out Low's take on Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me, if you do nothing else today), Spacemen 3 and... erm, John Denver, and make their versions sound like originals;
- or The Lambrettas... not because these mod revivalists, with songs and suits that Paul Weller would have thrown out two years earlier, were a particularly great band - but they did, in their formative days, practise in my scout hut and get me and some mates into their gigs for nothing!
In later years, with fleeting fame behind him, guitarist, Doug Sanders, also repaired my Mum's washing machine. Which was nice of him.

Just seen an ad for January concerts that has reminded me to give a mention to Nils Lofgren.

If Little Richard is accepted under L rather than R, I agree with Macc's comments, and he gets my vote. Little Richard, not Macc. I'm saving my vote for Macc for week M-after all, with his Welsh connections, Macc must have a beautiful voice!
