Jedward is not my pick. A mention for Elton John, but only for 'Your Song' & 'Tiny Dancer'. Jefferson Airplane for me this week, pop pickers. Beat me to it (1) Jefferson Airplane... I had the full collection and Grace Slick & the Great Society vinyl but flogged most of it during an hour of need... 'regrets I have a few'... Journey Joplin

japan were pretty cool, particularly 'assmeblage'. was very into the jesus and mary chain in the mid-eighties ('upside down' through to 'darklands'), although by the time i first saw them in 1992 they had become a pantomime turn.
...but joy division for me. i can't shake my fascination with the factory records story. such a contrast between martin hannett's then revolutionary studio production and the live savagery of the brilliant 'les bains douches' - the band they thought they were. whether it's the tautness of 'disorder' or 'transmission' or the reflection of 'insight' or 'atmosphere', all these years on i'm still compelled to go back regularly. properly f***ing essential.
...and 'unknown pleasures' was recorded in stockport, so surely gets at least 3 bonus points this week!

For the same reason as outlined a short while ago in Quizland, I'll call time on Week J a day early this week (Thursday at 1pm rather than Friday), announce the winner and start Week K if everyone is ok with that?

There can only be 1 winner for me this week and that would be The Jam (Favourite song by them is The Bitterest Pill)
