THIS INTERVIEW TOOK PLACE ON 7TH SEPTEMBER, 2012
Being from the area, did you grow up as a County fan or did your support fall to one of our Mancunian neighbours
No, My Dad was a Blue (Man City) but I decided to to be a Red, as my Dad always says glory hunter. I've always followed how Stockport have done and always checked their results on a Saturday!!
Your senior career has been almost all County from April 2005-April 2012 an impressive 7 years with the last few months coming in a loan spell, did you find it hard to leave the club the first time around?
Obviously when when the offer came in from Northampton to stay in the Football League I couldn't really turn it down but yes it was a tough decision to make with being at Stockport for so many years.
When Jim Gannon got in touch about a move back to Edgeley Park was there any hesitation in linking up with us again after the turbulent years we had on and off the pitch or was it an easy decision?
No, as soon as Jim gave me the call there was no hesitation to come back, it's a massive club and when I got the opportunity to come back I was willing to come and play for a great club and a great manager and couldn't turn that opportunity down.
If in the future a move back to County on a more permanent basis was offered to you, do you think that you would like to play here again?
Like I say, it's a great club to play for the fans are fantastic and if the gaffer (Jim) gave me the call to come back permanently it would be stupid of me to turn it down.
It was Jim Gannon who brought you back to the club last season and he repeated the miracle of 2006 again keeping the club up, do you think that he can turn the club around again like he did last time, culminating in the win at Wembley that of course, you were a part of?
Personally, I don't think there is a better man at the football club to turn things around than Jim, he knows the club inside and out and I'm sure with the people around him the club will be back where it belongs.
Some of your former teammates, have gone on to great things such as Anthony Pilkington, Wayne Hennessey and John Ruddy just of the top off my head, who out of the squad from last season do you feel could make it to the highest level?
Personally, I think Danny L Rowe could go far in the game and Ian Ormson will make it far if he grows and fills out a bit.
As I asked your old teammate Jordan Rose, do you ever read any of the fans forums or do the players generally tend to avoid things like that in case they don't like what they read about themselves or their teammates?
No, I stay away from the fans forums, it says in the name FANS forum so they get their chance to say their thing about the individuals they like or dislike.
As a player what is your greatest achievement, for County or otherwise?
My greatest achievement has to be playing at Wembley for Stockport Vs. Rochdale, easily my proudest moment in football.
What is the best game you have ever played in?
Stockport v Rochdale at Wembley, when we won 3-2.
Which of your goals for County is your personal favourite?
My Goal versus Chesterfield at the Cheadle End.
If you didn't play football what do you think you would be doing right now, did you play any other sports at a good level?
I've not really played any other sport at a high level but I enjoy playing all sports and I'm getting into golf at the moment.
Finally, what do you think the future holds for the club now under the guidance of Jim Gannon?
The future for Stockport is looking good they've got a good manager and a good bunch of lads there so with support from the board the club will be where it belongs sooner rather than later.
Massive thanks to Paul for speaking to me and I'm sure everybody here joins me in wishing him all the very best.
