Off we go again. Here are your starters to completely ignore and vote for someone entirely different (although I've deliberately avoided anything post-1988, with the exception of the last suggestion, to give me a fighting chance of keeping some of you happy!):
Hendrix, Jimi Hollies, The Holly, Buddy Housemartins, The Human League, The
Go on, who've I missed?!

Buddy Holly: Only 22 when he was tragically taken away at the toss of a coin, and yet his catalogue of work is the envy of artists who spent decades in the business. An innovator and an inspiration, his life was short but his legacy will live on for all time.
Elvis who?
Buddy Holly was the guv'nor, without question.
Honourables for the great Phil Oakey and The Human League, and for Paul Heaton and The Housemartins. Both were huge influences on me growing up.

No one for week h is my favourite but I think I'll go with Hendrix just for his sheer ability as a musician.

Good short-list, Sandy. I could see a case being made for any of the acts there. Others that have come to my mind, mainly from the World of Indie Pop, are the House of Love, Hefner and Helen Love (the latter being the girly-Ramones band-name, as well as the lead singer's... so it's allowed!). On the slightly heavier side, I do have a penchant for Husker Du. And Hole. But perhaps we had better not go there... For me, though, this is the week for Dorset's finest, PJ Harvey. In over twenty years, she has evolved and changed constantly - but without putting a foot wrong. Her early stuff was primal, dirty blues ( Dress) or overt art-rock ( Shee-La-Na-Gig), before she dipped her toe in the mainstream with the Mercury-winning Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea. Her two most recent albums - the piano-driven set of ballads that made up White Chalk and, in particular, the exploration of war that secured her second Mercury Award, Let England Shake - have been true masterpieces. She just gets better with age. In between, she has treated us to grunge, folk and electronica. Her collaborations with sometime band-mate, John Parish, are worth checking out, too. She was recently honoured with an MBE. If I ruled the country, mind, she should most certainly be Dame Polly Jean!

Hawkwind ( but only for the fantastic 'Silver Machine'). Herman's Hermits, Hue & Cry, Hawk & Richard Hawley, all worthy of a mention.
However, for me, it's a relatively easy choice:-
Englebert Humperdinck, is not it.
It is of course, The Hollies'
A fantastic group with loads of great hits like 'Look Cool Woman In A Black Dress', 'Carrie Anne', 'Just One Look' 'Bus Stop', 'Look Through Any Window' 'He Aint Heavy, He's Peter Griffin', 'Stop Stop Stop' and many more. Singles that I have grown up with which still sound as fresh as they did back in nineteen hundred & frozen to death.
Superb
