I've absolutely no doubt I'll be mocked for my optimism and shot down instantly! I expect it, so let rip guys, I won't cry..........much!
We got Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica, I'm actually okay with that group, England probably aren't going to win the World Cup anyway and in 2002 we had a horror group and got through and in 2012 we had a horror group and go through, in 2010 we had an easy group and scraped through, it forces us to play football and not expect the win automatically, Italy and Uruguay are both very beatable and of course so are Costa Rica! Could be a lot worse!
I reallt do think we can win that group, I'll be honest!

Looking at Group E, I may have to defer to ancestry on Mother Macc's side and support the French...:-)

it's a bl*ody tough group though fudge. italy and uruguay will both hope to bother the quarters at least. you're right about the 'easy' groups as well though - 2006 was another where we looked awful.

Really looking forward to it although I'm not sure about time differences to be able to watch games 'live'.
Uruguay (6th) Costa Rica (31st) and Italy (7th) is a tough group. Can't see us getting to the last 16 but live in hope.
Spain (1st) Netherlands (9th) and Chile (15th) for Australia will probably prove too much for them to even pick up a point.
Bring it on.

If we want to get anywhere we have to at least draw with the Italy and Uruguay. Could happen. At least we have to commit fully as players or else we will just disappear without a trace.

It's tough without a doubt but Italy aren't nearly the power they have been in recent years!

agreed that they're not the world cup winners of 2006; but they looked like they had plenty spare when they did us in the euros 18 months ago...

If they had plenty to spare then it was a bit cheeky leaving it until penalties.
Not a good draw but far from being a bad draw.

The thing most of the pundits have missed is who would like to have England as the third team in their group

of course archie...but they absolutely bossed the game. it would have been a greater robbery than the spain game in euro '96 had we nicked it on pens.

Can't see us getting more than 1 point. Same here, it's going to be incredibly difficult. I feel sorry for Hodgson. The crazy seeding issue wasn't his doing, and I think he deserves a fairer crack at the World Cup. The ranking system is an utter nonsense.

The ranking system is ridiculous but Italy and Uruguay will be just as worried about the prospect of playing us as we are them.
