Good shout with The Delgados, Macc - they are on my shortlist. Been Caught Steeling is a cracker.

Sorry, Eppers - I put up my initial post in a bit of a hurry, and without thinking. Been Caught Stealing was by Jane's Addiction, wasn't it?! The Delgados' tune of which I had been fondly reminiscing was Accused of Stealing.
Doh! Mighty fine songs, the pair of them, though - as I know a chap of your discerning taste will agree...!

a bit different to each other thought macc! good shout on the delgadoes. once saw them at leeds city varieties which as an old music hall, is a great venue for adult pop. have seen the likes of lambchop and yo la tengo there as well just as an illustration of the types of bands.
hadn't heard their 'mr blue sky' previously, it's on now! i did hunt down something obscure of theirs though solely because they had covered guided by voices' rickety 40-odd seconds of magic 'indian fables'. unfortunately when i did so, it was sh*t. about time i heard 'no danger' for the first time in years...*pointing sword forwards*.......To Youtube!!!

When I got home this evening, I dug out The Great Eastern as I'd not listened to it for ages. And there is was - Accused of Stealing. And you've got the correction in first! It has also led me to getting Universal Audio out - one of my favourite ever album covers. Sandy - I love this thread. It's getting me to listen to stuff I haven't done for ages - as well as discovering new bands. Top work, fella.

Gonna vote for 'em, then exile? nope! agreed eps. 'no danger' is f**king great! mine are: the US-shoegaze of drop nineteens. 'delaware' is a great album, and 'winona' a great single . second album was crap though. dinosaur jr. indie disco, late 1980's...along with sonic youth's cover of 'touch me i'm sick', 'freak scene' was the thing that got me up and...umm...swaying. most of the albums are patchy, but i love the washed out 'green mind' in particular. they're still going now...the rolling stones of post-hardcore... i have also only ever made one request at a gig, and j mascis played it at nottingham social. bless. richard davies. australian, formerly of the moles and cardinal. a couple of great mid-nineties albums, particularly the mature, sunny songwriter pop of 'there's never been a crowd like this', complete with a hint of bowie in his voice on the brilliant 'chips rafferty'. listen to it gents! dntel. jimmy tamborello's glitch-pop solo-with-special-guests outfit. most known for the lovely, nineties indie-referencing '(this is) the dream of evan and chan' and its 45 seconds of static before the tune bounds in. i owe it to you macc and eps: that was his big tune with death cab for cutie's ben gibbard providing the vocals (they also did the postal service project, and 'the district sleeps alone tonight' is great ), but there's lots of other choice stuff. ben gibbard's death cab for cutie. a bit sickly in large doses, but i loved the swoonworthy 'we laugh indoors', 'the new year' and 'transatlanticism', all of which perfectly encapsulated the sensitive indie male and his relationships...the latter two for me particularly about distance relationships where the lyrics get it absolutely spot on. however. umm. it may seem slightly out of character, but my choice for week 'd' is...err... duran duranthe first album is just fantastic sci-fi pop - stuff like 'anyone out there' and 'to the shore', but most of it really. they hit it big with 'rio', but for me it's the album tracks on that one that stand out, particularly 'lonely in your nightmare', 'new religion' and the sparkling 'last chance on the stairway'. they went a bit cocaine-awful after that, although i still quite liked the arcadia side-project. i'm having a few days at the seaside next month, and i will also be having some duran! oh, and the instrumental first twenty seconds or so of 'save a prayer' is still eighties pop genius.

Bob Dylan. Much imitated, never matched. Totally agree, his influence is immeasurable, and his portfolio unequalled. Dylan for me too. Mention too for Del Amitri. Their 'Waking Hours' album is sublime.

Mention too for Del Amitri. Their 'Waking Hours' album is sublime. The intro to Kiss This Thing Goodbye, and therefore the whole album, is still so fresh. You just know they were enjoying what they were doing.

Will anyone join me in admitting to a penchant for a bit of Def Leppard?
