First of all, many thanks for the good wishes I've received from everyone over the last three months.
I had the operation today to have the big screw removed. All went well and I am now walking (limping) again. Physio on Monday and stitches out in two weeks will have me almost match fit for Christmas.
My playing days are almost certainly over as my style of play is based on pure aggression. I would feel like I was letting the team down if I couldn't go into every challenge with the same commitment as before.
I think management beckons, after all, it's in the blood.

Thanks for the update, Downy. Good to hear that things are progressing in the right direction, even though you'll have to face the prospect of hanging up your boots - which I'm sure won't come easy.
All the best, Cobber.

That's brilliant to hear, mate. You're very wise not to put the old boots back on too, you will definitely suffer when you get older if you do. Just remember one thing when you put on the manager's coat for the first time though: four, four f*****g TWO!

"Football is a simple game made complicated by people who should know better"

Gaffer? Hmmm, maybe not. Filling the team sheet in, warming the keeper up and running the line I reckon.
Oh, and opening the bar at full time!

Latest update:
Still in pain but easing, still swollen, still not got full movement, three months until I can go for a jog.
Back to work on Monday (medical permitting!!!)
First training session for the boys tonight, loads turned up. Once registration is over and we know exactly how many have signed on we can look at if it's worth having another veteran's team or even an over 45's.
Gaffer's coat on standby...

Encouraging news, mate, hopefully you can use some of that vast experience to get into the coaching side.

Good to hear you're still on the mend Downy. Will you need a big fleecy sheepskin jacket or maybe the Arsene style duvet coat?
