Evening folks,
I've decided that there's no point having a break over the weekend (like we do with the quiz) and CHUMS will work better if each week flows into the next. So, with that in mind, (and because the quiz starts each Monday) I'll try to have the changeover for CHUMS each Friday - with the current week ending around midday and the next week starting shortly afterwards.
Also, I've changed my mind about my 'C' short-list so many times over the past few days (and, indeed, the past hour!) that I'm best off just going with my current selection and waiting for the backlash - although I'm ready to defend my choices if necessary!
Not easy to restrict it to 5 this week (I've had about 15-20 artists in different versions of my short-list so far!) but I've decided to go for a varied choice and this is, as always, just a starter to give some food for thought. By all means add your own choices and the chances are they were in my final 5 within the last week!
Enough waffling, here you are:
Clapton, Eric Coldplay Counting Crows Cranberries, The Cure, The
Over to you.

christ. a grisly selection. although i did rather like caterpillar by the cure, and if under threat of severe pain, i will admit that i really liked coldplay's 'don't panic'.
callahan, bill. the baritoned genius behind smog, although in recent years recording under his own name. clever enough to be drily funny without being annoying, and with many beautiful and affecting outsider's songs. one of my favourite artists ever.
clap your hands say yeah. not the most promising band name, but their eponymous first album was a good 'un, particularly 'in this home on ice'.
cloud nothings. mainly because i like 'cool kid'.
clouddead. weirdo hip-hoppers vacillating between clever and irritating, but their guest appearance on hood's lovely 'cold house' album makes them worth a little mention.
coldcut. not one of my faves, but i absolutely love 'a whistle and a prayer'.

The Cure are the best of that bunch for me, I have gone right off Coldplay now. 'Parachutes' seems like a whole century ago in comparison to the utter f***ing dirge they churn out to the masses these days.
That said, Sam Cooke for me.
Listen to 'The man and his music' and tell me I'm wrong.
(@ Sandy: If mine is the only vote for Sam Cooke when voting closes then I'd like to change it to The Cure please)

Ok mate. I put Coldplay in initially just because they're huge and their earlier stuff was, as you say, really good, but then removed them in favour of someone else only to be persuaded by Mrs Sandy a few hours ago to reinstate them!

Quite a few Cs come to mind...
Cocteau Twins, The Coral, Curve, Crash Test Dummies, The Charlatans, Catatonia, Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, The Cardigans, Cast, Chapel Club and Cud
Having written that list, though, my vote goes to Elvis Costello. A prolific singer songwriter who has collaborated with the likes of McCartney and Bacharach. (He is also married to Diana Krall who has the most gorgeous voice on the planet!)

Paul Carrack, Cher, The Christians, Phil Collins, The Corrs. I am quite tempted by Sam Cooke but, assuming that this is the correct letter for them, I'm going for Crosby, Stills & Nash who were the musical backdrop to my uni finals and were featured in the film Woodstock which I saw after attending the interview that got me my first proper job.

Got it down to four, including The Carpenters, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Leonard Cohen (when you need cheering up) but for me, it was an easy decision.
My vote for 'C' goes to a supergroup comprising three magical musicians, namely, Jack Bruce(on bass), Ginger Baker (drums) and Eric Clapton (guitar). The band is of course, Cream.
Cream must surely rise to the top this week.

Some good choices there Archie. I did consider Phil Collins but was under the, perhaps misguided, impression that he wasn't well liked. Maybe I'd better re-think Genesis for Week G?!
Cher would have made the list if I was factoring in sales figures, but if that was a criterion then Mariah Carey would have had to go in too and I couldn't take the risk!
Wouldn't have had you down for a Corrs fan though.
Good choice in the end.
@ars - who is your vote going to matey?
