Yes, what about XTC?! I'm not sure they warrant a week to themselves (and I'm sure there are other artists beginning with X, but none worth discussing that I could find). X-Ray Spex (70s Punk band) Generation X (Billy Idol's band before he went solo, loose but surely doable?) Xzibit (Rapper who did Pimp my ride)

Best version ever is John Otway ----- Brilliantly stage managed with the "heckler" i liked that lennie. particularly as he was laughing his head off like michael palin in an especially silly python sketch...

A great idea is this, Sandy. And some good suggestions for the 'A' prize - Animal Collective, Another Sunny Day and Aztec Camera among them. I would add Herb Alpert for easy times, and the Au Pairs (one of the best bands I have ever seen live) for edgier ones. Oh, and Aaliyah - for having the voice of an angel. A little surprised that there have been no shouts for Arcade Fire or the Arctic Monkeys. Too soon, perhaps? But, assuming that this has to be a one-person-one-vote thing - and Sandy will be expecting this of me in any event - mine has to be for ABBA. Their minor hits ('The Day Before You Came') and album tracks (anything on 'Arrival') were up there with the very best pop music, before consideration is even given to the classic stuff.

mine has to be for ABBA. Their minor hits ('The Day Before You Came') ... I may be alone, but I actually liked the Blancmange cover of that song, Maccy.

Their minor hits ('The Day Before You Came') Sounds a bit similar to Equinoxe Part 7 by Jean Michel Jarre to me.

I've just landed an XTC Making Plans For Nigel 7" single WITH mint inserst etc. Looking forward to selling that! I like this section!
