Your suggested artists for this week, but they are just a suggestion to get us started, are as follows:
Abba AC/DC Aerosmith Animals, The Ash
Of course, feel free to nominate and justify your own favourite - I'm sure I read somewhere that Fudgie's favourite song is Barbie Girl by Aqua for example - but bear in mind it'll be the artist with the most votes at the end of the week that goes onto our soundtrack.

Any one who doesn't like ABBA is kidding themselves.

Average White Band were great, (still can't believe they're scottish), but for me, it has to be ABBA.
The 70's wouldn't have been the same without them

Can I suggest Another Sunny Day. A band on the Sarah Records who were aroud in the late 1980's / early 1990's.
They are an indie pop band who, at times sound more like The Smiths than... The Smiths!
One of their best known songs is the single: I'm in Love with a Girl Who Doesn't Know I Exist. 1 Minute 38 seconds of genius.
The song reminds me of my school days. The reason being that if you were into bands like Another Sunny Day (or had even heard of Sarah Records) then you were probably a slightly awkward geeky indie kid (long hair, looking at the ground, shuffling around in Docs) - excatly the sort of person who would admire girls from afar, but they wouldn't even be aware of your exitence, let alone your name. (And there, ladies and gentleman, is Epworth's school days in one sentence!)
My only regret is that I never bought the single (or London Weekend, the album) on vinyl, but rather made do with a poor taped version. And now, of course the orginal Sarah Records vinyl is a rare as a hen's rocking horse.

adam and the ants - great drumming, great (nicked from link wray) guitar, great pop tunes
arab strap - maudlin falkirkians, jarringly grotesque lyrics, brilliant guitars and some beautiful music ('dream sequence', 'the night before the funeral', 'the first big weekend', the live 'girls of summer' etc
animal collective - jittery weirdos with an eye for the occasional big pop tune ('my girls', 'banshee beat')
and you will know us by the trail of dead - 'source tags and codes' is one of the great rock albums of the 00's
akron/family - barmy harmonising rockers. mostly irritating, but when one of their tunes comes together, it sticks
eps - i suspect we're not going to 'win' many weeks of this!

We surely can't allow Christian names otherwise Mike Flynn would have been first choice in CHIEF for 'M'. I could throw in Al Stewart, Al Kooper, Alan Parsons and even Art Garfunkel. (Hastily adds a ) Likely to be a generational thing and I appreciate the Animals nomination but I have to go with the 'A' in my CD collection - America. Quite a few decent tracks but Exhibit A would have to be Sister Golden Hair.

Much as it physically pains me to agree with Archie (winky face*) he is quite right that Alanis would indeed qualify for week M, not week A, Fudgie. I'll bear her in mind (then conveniently forget to mention her) when we get there.
* this isn't intended to be an emoticon, I just like calling him winky face.

Some good suggestions so far and I'm pleased that it's sparking some interest after a quiet weekend (thanks to the football!)
I may have underestimated quite how many 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 draws we're going to have though!

Animals for me as I can play 3 versions of "House of the Rising Sun" eh? in different keys or something else? i only know the one! i'll have some animals too. mainly for 'house's vocal, guitar and organ, but a bit too for their version of 'don't let me be misunderstood', which is also brilliant.
