Evening all.
I'm not even sure it's still called County Life, but we'll stick with that for the time being!
As you will probably be aware, myself and Maccy have been invited back to write on behalf of this fine forum in the match day programme and what follows is our first article of the season. There was a slight issue in the referencing of who wrote what, which we'll be sure to try and rectify for the next programme (it was fine when it left us!) but here it is in all it's glory.... enjoy

Good afternoon everyone, and welcome back to EP for the start of a new season. A warm welcome also to those fans who have made the long trip from my favourite of all the Ferribies, North Ferriby!
For the third successive season, myself and my esteemed co-contributor, Maccy, have been invited to write a regular article on behalf of County Heaven (yes, we’re as surprised as you are). For the small minority who haven’t yet heard of us, or for those with amnesia (which makes supporting County much easier), CH is an online fans’ forum open to anyone and everyone. I couldn’t possibly do the forum justice here, so the best thing to do is take a look for yourself – the address is at the bottom of the page.
In the short time since we were founded in January 2011, we’ve organised a sponsored walk to Macclesfield Town (raising nearly £2,000 for a children’s cancer charity in the process); we’ve written two books, the first of which has now made over £200 for the British Heart Foundation; AND we’ve sponsored some players and, more recently, Alan Lord. In fact, we’re delighted to be sponsoring Lordy again this season!
Now then, how was your summer, Maccy? Did that mankini make another appearance?

Honestly, Sandy – you make me sound as if I’m obsessed with skimpy undergarments!
So, enough of that. Here is County’s pre-season in briefs… (oh, dammit):
Most of the friendlies were played in the balmiest of conditions. (I, for one, had never before experienced Buxton on such a hot and sunny evening – practically sub-tropical, so far as SK17 was concerned!) Whilst it was a pity that our trips to Glossop (the previous parish to house the Macc Family) and Cheadle Town had to be cancelled, the performances and results against both Nantwich and Northwich represented improvements on those from the corresponding July fixtures last year.
Cheadle Heath Nomads made County work a tad harder twelve months on, for a quarter of the goals-haul, and we just took a little too long to get off the ground against Andy Preece’s impressive Airbus high-flyers.
Last but, of course, nowhere near least, the ‘Flynny’ and ‘Lando’ Testimonials held at EP for two great and much-loved servants of the Club proved to be highly enjoyable occasions, which helped to remind many of us why we follow the County over land… and the odd river. (Nice to have beaten Macclesfield at EP for once, too!)
But this afternoon, the serious stuff begins. Enjoy the game – and, let us hope, the season!
