Agreed mate, looked like it could be a good night 15mins in, but after we spurned chance after chance I could tell which way it was going. Still, at least I didn't have to drive all the way back to Keele on my own, and instead had the pleasure of Arthur Brownlow on repeat emanating from the front passenger seat!

England U17s beat Italy 1-0 in their first group match of the U17 Euros in Bulgaria. The other 2 countries in their group, Ireland and the Netherlands drew.

By the nature of the age group, this is pretty much a new squad so it's not easy to win with consecutive cohorts but it is encouraging to see the organisation being put in place in Burton which allows for continuity as each squad moves up the age groups. Also good to see Gareth Southgate with the management group keeping an eye on the talent that will be available to him in a couple of years. The left back, Jay Dasilva (Chelsea), looks especially promising. Schedule of matches: www.uefa.com/under17/season=2015/matches/index.htmlTo be found on Eurosport.

Cheers Archie! It'd be great to see England retain the trophy and would be a promising sign for the future!

England drew with the Netherlands and have just won the group by beating Ireland 1-0. I think that means they play Russia in the QFs on Saturday.

Great result for the young Lions or 3 Cubs if you prefer!
Hopefully they can go on to defend the title!

England have released the new kits for the Euro's....http://www.thesportbible.com/articles/revealed-england-s-home-and-away-kits-for-euro-2016-are-disgusting-130316
Not keen on the home shirt but I actually quite like the Away one!

The last player that made me want to buy an England shirt was Paul Gascoigne, a proper footballer. I just can't identify with any of the overpaid players currently wearing the shirt.
That's not too say I don't have any time for Lambert and Vardy, their going on to play for England really are remarkable stories in their own right, but heroes? Nah. Those things don't exist in the England team anymore.

Cracking game in Germany.
1-0 to Germany on the stroke of HT, slightly unlucky with the goal as Butland was clearly hurt. 2-0 goal looked to have killed us off.
A bit of great play got England right back in it at 2-1 with a great bit of skill and a great finish...Vardy finishing a good England move to with a cheeky backheel to make it 2-2 and then against all odds, Eric Dier popping up with winner on 90 minutes!
What a comeback, only a friendly so can't read too much into it but to completely dismantle the best team in the World can't go without praise! If Rooney starts at the Euro's, Hodgson should be forced to resign!

All that just to ruin my prediction of a draw. I paid Deli Alli a fortune to miss that sitter too!

One of the greatest midfielders of the modern era, Lothar Mattheus said those players proved they're good enough, so we should build the team with those players, and that tonight they did it without Rooney.
I'm sorry, but I totally agree. We should be leaving the mentality of the so-called 'golden generation' behind us, where those players were constant shoe-ins regardless of club form.
Rooney is well past his best, and regardless of his breaking Charlton's record (look at who most of his goals have been against) , when was the last time he fully lived up to the hype at a major tournament, 2004?
I wouldn't even take him to France myself, we really don't need him.

Not that I wish injuries on any player, but if for whatever reason he is injured and can't go it would be blessing in disguise for England.
