not that i've played any of them for years, but i was irritated to see that liverpool are now officially FIFA so it will be back to 'merseyside reds' on PES if i get one of the next-gen consoles. FIFA's usually been prettier to look at but i've never enjoyed it much to play.

FIFA's usually been prettier to look at but i've never enjoyed it much to play. I might have to try PES this year, b*ll*cks to the phoney names - I'd sooner have genuine gameplay mechanics, rather than scripted, rigged AI aimed at hoodwinking players into buying more player packs. I need to point out here that I don't play Ultimate Team, so I don't buy player packs myself, but I'm convinced that the scripting in ultimate team is prominent throughout the entire game, even in the single player modes - I've witnessed all of the nonsense that goes on in ultimate team when playing single player tournament mode. EA are ripping their customers off and they set their games up so the player is coaxed into spending money to improve their gameplay experience - they're grifting the public, no better than those rigged stalls on travelling fairgrounds. Their representatives have been stating their case in parliament and it's been absolutely f***ing criminal the bullsh*t they've been coming out with in order to fend off the accusations that player packs are a form of gambling, which they absolutely ARE. www.engadget.com/2019/06/20/ea-uk-parliament-loot-boxes-surprise-mechanics/I'd love to see the whole gaming community boycott the f***ing parasites, but for every one of us that does, there'll be a handful of those that don't. I did think that the gaming world was at a crossroads until very recently, but now I fear that it's already well on its way down the wrong path and won't be stopped - not by this government anyway.

doesn't matter whether it's FIFA or fast and furious #27 or love island, there's a massive lowest common denominator market out there, which will just keep lapping up the sh*t. just a shame for football fans that there are only two football franchises, and at least one of them is creatively bankrupt other than finding ways to financially milk players after the point of purchase.

agreed gazz. xbox one. xbox one s. xbox one x. series s. series x. and this is just two generations. given that they've committed to making games for the next year or two scaleable so they can be played across their consoles, why not just leave people with the choice of buying games for their old one until they upgrade, or splashing out for the series x. seems very messy heading towards a launch.

The 'X' is a seriously powerful piece of kit that, as expensive as it is, is pretty keenly priced considering the technology inside and the losses Microsoft must have made during this pandemic.
They should have just released one version and priced it a little more keenly, as they would fly out of the door. Not only that, with more kids owning them, more games will sell and the money they'll make on the game pass service will be huge too.
At least Sony have been a little more straightforward with theirs, with the same tech in both the Disc and digital only versions of the PS5, but the pricing has yet to be revealed on those.
It'll be interesting to see how much they want for them.

Haven’t really paid much attention to the new Xbox/PS5 yet but will be intriguing to see who wins this generation.
For me the PS2 is the THE definitive console. Xbox probably edged the 360/PS3 era but Sony hit back with the PS4.
I’ll probably get a PS5, out of brand loyalty more than anything else as I’ve never really been an Xbox fan but as always it’ll probably take the release of a headline game to get me to buy the next gen after the initial hype has subsided!

Your move, Microsoft!

Points 2 and 3 (Xbox360 and PS4) I agree with there Gts, but being an older gamer, I have to say that the definitive console for me is the Super NES, hands down! Hadouken!

I absolutely f***ing loathe eBay and the disgusting scalping filth they knowingly allow on there. This should be against the law. All pre orders everywhere have been snapped up and are now on eBay at hugely inflated prices, it makes me sick.

apparently microsoft have now acquired zenimax (bethesda). that's quite definitive for me, although far away still, the next elder scrolls game will be an xbox console exclusive (and on steam for pc) as will the next iterations of fallout, prey, doom, wolfenstein etc.

I’m pretty gutted about that because it’s huge coup for Microsoft and Xbox. Bethesda are a fantastic studio and make brilliantly ambitious games (even if they are full of bugs!). Skyrim is one of my favourite games ever.

Skyrim is one of my favourite games ever. doesn't necessarily hold that future ones will be as good, but i got to about a thousand hours between oblivion and skyrim, which is frankly scary. i enjoyed just the scenery in skyrim for a start, and could put most of the non-crash bugs to one side.
also, as i didn't buy either of the last gen, i'm pleased there will be full backwards compatibility on series x, and even plenty of 360 and original xbox games supported - never got to try red dead redemption 2 for a start...

I remember back in the days before the internet free for all, when console pre-orders were secured in-store, with first come, first served being the rule of thumb.
You'd be allocated a number, which would show you where you are in the queue. You'd then eventually receive your new console in a fair and transparent order, without the shitshow we're seeing recently.
How difficult is it to have the same system, whether there is stock or not, where you pay a deposit and will instantly know that, when the stock allocation reaches your number in the queue, you will get one - rather than sitting up until all f***ing hours to enter into a frantic click-a-thon where every website crashes the moment they go on sale?
It's not difficult to implement, so why aren't they doing this?
Scalpers are scumbags at the best of times, but when they're doing it in the middle of a pandemic, they should be classified as being on a par with looters.
For clarity. I've got my PS5 sitting next to my TV right now, but it still boils my p**s when I see what's going on out there.
Message to Sony: Don't just sit there apologising, COME UP WITH A f***ing SOLUTION.
