GMWFL Over 65s Autumn Series December - Division 1
The Senior Seasiders started the last set of 4 fixtures in 5th position after 12 games and in serious threat of relegation from the 1st Division. This being their first season in the top set. The team were 3 points behind 4th placed Preston with a 3 goal disadvantage as well.
Preston lost their first game 0-2, so no change.
Blackpool 0 Corinthians 0. Corinthians missed an early penalty. (The International Space Station have agreed to return the ball asap). So we crept a point closer to Preston
Blackpool 1 Preston 0. A huge win for for the Seasiders (the first in 14 attempts this season). Importantly Blackpool were now a single point ahead of Preston with a 1 goal better GD. Goal from Dave Roberts - long drive through the keepers hands into the top middle of the net. The Preston full back was then red carded for a DOGSO - sadly we missed the penalty.
Blackpool 1 Bolton 1. Vital point as Preston also drew their 3rd game. Bolton took an early lead but a great reply from Dave Roberts again secured a hard earned point against the league leaders.
Meanwhile (on the other pitch) - Preston took an early lead, only to be pegged back. They then missed a penalty and conceded late on to lose 1-2.
Blackpool 0 Bury 0. Already secure in the knowledge that we had done enough to stay up an end to end game unbelievably finished goalless. Many chances for both teams.
Final Table
Bolton (+6) 28 points
Corinthians (+5) 26
Bury (+7) 25
Blackpool (+6) 13
Preston (+1) 11
September 2pts, October 4pts, Nov 1pt, Dec 6pts = Total 13.
The Spring Season will resume in March with Division 2 champions Wakefield coming to join the "big boys".
