i loved 'life on mars' as well. i started to get a bit bored with 'ashes to ashes' - it went on a lot longer, but it took such a weird, dark turn leading to that f***ed up ending...and that left me with very good thoughts of it because it was pretty emotional in the end.
i bought a series of the US 'life on mars' a couple of years ago, but i've not bothered watching it so far, the main cast was so good in 'our' one that it was hard to imagine different people -and especially americans- playing them. harvey keitel as gene hunt? hmm. i can only imagine it's a bit william h macy as francis gallagher...a bit of a lightweight impersonation. you seen it?

No, mate, not seen it. I don't think I'll bother to be honest, as you say regarding the original British cast, it's difficult to improve on perfection.

I loved Life on Mars. A fine example of the sort of world class TV we can produce. You did better with Ashes to Ashes than me, ars; I gave up after about 3 episodes. I can't put my finger on it - it just didn't grab me. As a rule I think US remakes are a poor imitation, so I generally give them a miss.
On another note, I don't think Early Doors has been mentioned on this thread yet. So there, I've done it.

On the subject of TV and in particular Sky.
Can someone please put a stop to the endless appearances of the Father & Son combo 'The Redknapps' No, it's not a follow up to 'Deliverance', but it's close.
Almost every time I turn on Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, either or both are there. There was even an occasion when Father was being interviewed by Son, add to that Son was interviewed at Wembley prior to the Froch/Groves fight.
It's tedious, boring and ever so slighlty over the top.
Stop it, Sky

what's everybody's favourite coogan then? i particularly liked 'the trip' (but not got round to the recent italian follow-up yet. 'saxondale' was great - he was a tragic, pathetic 'partridge'-esque character, but i enjoyed it a lot more. and i liked his tony wilson in '24 hour party people'.

Hate 'Knowing me, knowing you', probably the only Coogan fan that does, but it really does nothing for me.
'I'm Alan Partridge' obviously:
"Come on, Sonia, let's be appalling..." - quality!
'Get Calf' & 'Dearth of a salesman' was class, as was the 'Mid-morning matters' Alan Partridge series that Sky Atlantic put together from those Fosters lager specials.
'Alpha Papa' was as good as you could have made Partridge on the big screen I suppose, but it wasn't side-splitting by any means.

Woah! How did this slip under the radar?! www.imdb.com/title/tt3489184/But wait, there's to be no smoking from the main character, surely that can't be right? That is akin to Ghost Rider ditching his bike! Hmmm, I'm downloading the pilot now, so I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it.

ooh! let me know what it's like. looks like there's only the pilot for now. i quite enjoyed the film even though: a) it got panned b) it starred bill or ted (can never remember which one's which.......ted?)

Alex Winter - Bill S. Preston Keanu Reeves - Ted Theodore Logan. I enjoyed Constantine too, even though it was slated. I was hoping for a sequel, but that looks unlikely now.
