I know Gervais is the Daddy of the office but I really do think the US version is better.
An opinion I usually get slaughtered for.
On another note, I still can't understand why or even how fans of Family Guy can claim that MacFarlane's best work isn't American Dad! I'm a huge MacFarlane fan but I'm forever having this discussion!

Watched and enjoyed the first series of 'Derek'. Saw the first episode of the second series last week which was only average. Last night's offering was in the main, crude and unfunny. Also not sure why 'Dougie'(played by Karl Pilkington) has left as he was one of the better characters.
Hopefully next week's episode will be much better and less vulgar and explicit.

didn't realise 'dougie' wasn't in the new series - that's a massive shame as he was the heart of it. i loved the episodes last series where he'd be getting more and more wound up by something throughout the episode, and then explode brilliantly, and righteously...like at the daughter who cared more about her deceased mum's jewellery than her deceased mum.
was a bit of a fine line though. the pervert character (is it 'kev'?) is just unsettling rather than funny - i assume if the episode was vulgar he would probably have brought a lot of that. i've just recorded them, so i'll take a view in six months when i've finally worked my way through all the other crap on my digibox.

exile,
'dougie' was in last week's episode, but he has left and his position of caretaker is up for grabs.
The pervert 'Kev' is indeed the cause of my distaste for last night's episode.
I've probably spoilt it slightly for those (and you) who've yet to watch it, sorry about that.

no probs rog - i'm certain to have forgotten by the time i get round to it!
i've been recording (but haven't yet watched, in a consistent theme) 'the trip to italy'; steve coogan and rob brydon improv-ing through italian restaurants. anybody watching it? the first 'the trip', mainly set in yorkshire and i think cumbria, was very good.

I've not seen that yet, ars. Steve Coogan really does not need any further superlatives, he's earned and had them all, but Rob Brydon is also a very sharp bloke, brilliant in fact. I'm a big fan of both of them, so I will have to catch up with that myself at some point.

i think the italy one is probably about half way through its run at the moment. it's just them playing versions of themselves, and competitively doing impressions at each other and playing uneasy mates. i'd have a crack at the first series - it was only about half a dozen episodes and i'm sure you'll find it online somewhere. alternatively, i've just looked and it's just over six quid on amazon. it's one of those things where you're not hooting with laughter or anything, but it's just very good.

ITVs coverage of the Europa League seems much better than their coverage of the Champions League!

Will definitely try and catch up on the previous episodes if that's the quality on display. Looking foward to next week's offering (if there's still more to come that is)

i think on my planner thing it said last night's was the fifth out of six rog. i do like the quality american stuff where you get a big 22 episode season, but there's definitely still something to be said for six half hours of british perfection.

countyheaven.freeforums.net/thread/820/tv-threadthy will be done! it's called 'for the love of cars', and each week they track down a knackered example of a classic car, or a particularly famous one; and then glennister travels around giving us the history of the car, and his mate restores it as faithfully as possible. sunday was the delorean DMC (or whatever the 'back to the future' car was called) but there have been a variety of vintages. it's not great telly, but it's that sort of thing that's enjoyable to pass an hour.

i think it was channel 4, so hopefully they'll have all the episodes available and you can pick the ones you fancy; not just the DMC from last sunday.
