I'll start.
I never saw Life's Too Short first time around, just watched it on Gold tonight, hilarious.
Great scene where Warwick Davis is interviewing a man and a woman, both Dwarfs, performing 'Ebony and Ivory' at his Talent Agency, the woman has painted her face black to play the part of Stevie Wonder. He tells them that 'blacking up' isn't the sort of thing you can do these days, so the girl who is 'blacked up' says : "...and I'm a Lesbian.."
Warwick, looking gobsmacked says: "I didn't even know one of you was a girl!" then looks at the camera.
Absolute quality.

If you haven't seen it. Larry David's, Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Utterly hilarious, exaggerated real life events that actually happened to him.
Well worth a watch.

Larry David is in a class of his own, mate, I watch it whenever I see it on. Some people think that Ricky Gervais invented the cringeworthy 'put your foot in it' sit-com, no chance, David got there long before him.

Exactly! Gervais to me isn't funny!
He's been living off Karl Pilkington for about 5 years now!
Larry David perfectly encapsulates the self deprecating New York Jew. As well as being the king of putting his foot in it! True comic genius!

Hebburn.
A brilliant comedy based in the North East. Great characters and great writing. The funniest thing on TV in the last few years, in my opinion.

Repeats of Foyle's War
Brilliant writing by Anthony Horowitz (my future daughter in law is his literary agent !!).
Brilliant acting by Michael Kitchen. He can indicate 10 words by just raising an eyebrow.
New series being filmed at the moment.

i was really surprised at 'hebburn', eps. i'm not a fan...in fact i've always disliked vic reeves, but i like this jim muir fella! gina mckee's in it too who is always good. i just happened to catch one near the start of the first series, and watched it since. really good.
larry david is great, but after finding him irritating for a while, i do rate gervais as well now. gazz - if you haven't seen it yet, the 'life's too short' at the convention where warwick's abusively interviewed by a psychotically stressed cable tv reporter is piss funny. well...that five minutes is! i like 'derek' as well. again, took me a few episodes to get into it, but it's really warm-hearted, despite being vile as well... and some of the guests on 'extras'...the big names like ben stiller and orlando bloom were good sports, but the les dennis and keith chegwin episodes were something else...
seen a couple of 'brooklyn nine nine' and that looked ok (i've got the rest recorded), but it's apparently been cancelled now. still on on thursdays (i think) on 4 at the moment.
anybody that hasn't seen it and likes the sort of stuff mentioned above (but probably more specifically 'the office') should give 'parks and recreation' a try. the first series is just six twenty minute episodes and is ok...just setting the scene really. from season two (a proper 22 episode season) it gets hilarious. it's just a great ensemble cast, and for anybody who watches it already, in ron swanson, a man for our times...

and here is that 'life's too short' clip, gazz. not quite as funny taken out of the episode...but still pretty good! for some odd reason part of the clip is replayed towards the end, but this is still the full thing.

The excellent 'Later.....with Jools Holland'
New series started a couple of weeks ago and continues this evening with the third show.
A mention too for the brilliant opening credit sequence of this series.
Only one of a handful of decent programmes on the 'box'.
Thankfully though, 'Gold' is always around to help in times of need.

I think that, while there's an element of 'money for old rope' to his portfolio, it's still entertaining stuff. I've not seen 'Derek', but I'm sure I'll get around to it. 'Extras' was a masterpiece, and the Les Dennis & Cheggers episodes were indeed brilliant, as were all of them, but those two were just surreal, with elements of their own personal laundry being washed in public to give it that edge. Gervais isn't a genius as such, but he's a very intelligent bloke who knows what his fans will find funny, However, the real talent is Merchant, and that is more evident on those XFM podcasts that HBO animated for 'The Ricky Gervais Show'. Merchant is the real talent of that partnership, but they are both very clever blokes.

I think Gervais has been in hilarious things. The Office and Extras were superb but I think that whilst he's okay as Gazza said he knows what fans want but I mean let's face it. His two big recent successes are the Ricky Gervais Show and An Idiot Abroad and in them it's Karl Pilkington who is the one who gets the laughs and Merchant who digs for me laughs.
Gervais may be the best ideas man in the world but actually physically performing the comedy scenes, to me isn't his strong point!

i kind of get that fudge. i think pilkington's character is the real star of 'derek', and the andy millman character in 'extras' isn't particularly likeable. i sort of think that's one of gervais' bravest traits though - other people in it are the characters you're supposed to like, not him, such as pilkington in 'derek' or martin freeman in 'the office'.
the big stars in extras were prepared to join in and either play to a public perception of them (bloom and stiller as different kinds of horrid egotist) or against it (patrick stewart, kate winslet, etc), but it's brave and funny to just be 'barry off eastenders' when that's all he'll ever be to people, or for chegwin to be a piggy, racist drunk. television would be massively worse off without gervais and merchant, both for what they've produced, and for what they've influenced. my current fave, 'parks and recreation' wouldn't exist for example, both as a type of show, and specifically because it's written by 'american office' alumni.
