6 years this week since we picked up Tommy from Mid Wales so he is about 10 years old now.
He has calmed down a lot and loves ferreting in the undergrowth. He usually finds a bunch of crap range golf balls but turns the odd decent Nike or titlist !!
Sorry struggling with photos on here.

I’m actually working harder than before! I have a schedule of ten minute one to one video conferences with all of my class, we are preparing videos to talk them through the expected learning everyday. Demonstrating how to log on and use various websites to accomodate their learning as well as ensuring we plan offline activities to. Not to mention marking all work submitted electronically... I take my hat off to you guys, Duds - you really are doing an incredible job keeping the education system going. My daughter recently moved back to Dudley as she couldn’t afford to live on assistant manager wages on her own... she got a job as an assistant manager in a café in a shopping centre 4 weeks ago, 2 weeks ago she was told there weren’t enough customers because of the virus and she was reduced to zero hours and told to try and find another job! Obviously my son’s DJ work has stopped completely so it has really hit the family quite hard. I'm really sorry to hear that, mate. I fear that employers up and down the country are going to be trying every trick in the book to screw their staff and protect their own interests. My best wishes go out to your family. They already did. A Brittannia Hotel in the highlands somewhere not only told its staff they were out of work but told them they had to be out of their accommodation pronto. Apparently local families have been putting them up. After it was made public it was blamed on an "administrative error".

Just watched first two episodes of The English Game, Lennie. Superb stuff. The Netflix costume drama it's ok to like!

I've stayed at Brittannia hotels on occasion on account of them being cheap and cheerful however, since they are clearly cheap and nasty they can go on the list of businesses to avoid

i appreciate he may have had to sign a few letters, but when you're relieving somebody of their employment through no fault of their own, at least do a proper f***ing signature. that is just totally off-hand and couldn't give a f***... the employee should have screwed it up and made him eat it.
and - an unprecedented health and general national crisis and you're wanting to claim back the day -at minimum wage- that the employee was ahead on their holidays, again, through no fault of their own.
what an absolute set of bastards.

I wouldn't recommend reading it because it's principle interest lies in the way it redefines the term turgid but if I may precis "Britannia unchained", the dismal tome written by the likes of the terminally gormless Dominic Raab (remember him? Hadn't realised the importance of the role played by this country's principle port Dover in the exchange of goods with the rest of Europe) and deeply unlovely Priti Patel (sacked from the cabinet for using her position whilst embarking on a private venture in Israel, suggested using the threat of food shortages in the Republic of Ireland as a negotiating tool in Brexit, etc, etc) in which they argue the benefits of removing the vast majority of employment protections in a bid to ensure that employees remain servile at all times for fear of losing their jobs. Seriously, anyone supporting this bunch of sociopathic thugs needs to take a good hard look at themselves.

Sending our best wishes to everyone here and all your families. It's like living in a warped movie, right?!
Our report...
It's a bit of a double whammy that Mrs Herm and I are both self-employed childminders right now, as you can imagine!
Like most in our line of work, it's meant going from a low income to no income, or a very reduced income should a setting have children in particular circumstances.
Elsewhere people talk of unregistered 'settings' advertising that they will take children, which clearly needs firm action to stop.
Insurance firms that I know of are not going to help cover the loss (which would usually only be a maximum £1000 anyway). While something like Scarlet Fever would have left us covered, as COVID-19 isn't a named disease, we are not.
All we could do on the last sessions this week was to box together some things for the children as resources to use at home in the hope it helps them and their parents.
Friday night, across from our house, the police attended a 'house party' (covid chanting to boot!) which went on through until the intervention at 4am and saw individuals off rheir minds trying to kick in the door to the property and driving like idiots, honking etc.
Most importantly as a family though, no-one is showing signs of illness here and that's ultimately what matters.
Seeing photos from around the world of nature recovering due to our changing behaviour is surely the most wonderful thing of all. Even for us (we live on a busy road), the lower pollution and noise is dramatically changed for the better at the moment.
Stay healthy and positive. If anyone needs links which might support learning/keep young ones entertained, then please say and I'll put something together.

Spain has just extended its lockdown for another 2 weeks until the 11th of April. Best get comfortable I guess, might be here for a while! And I perfectly understand why, the highest new cases and deaths were recorded here yesterday over 3500 new cases and 300 deaths. Let’s hope the UK populace wake up to the danger soon. Stay safe all.

Are there a lot of older people living in these countries, Duds? I'm not trying to dismiss this as just an "old person" killer, I'm trying to get an idea as to why it's been so devastating both there and in Italy. It sounds like the people there are doing everything they can to beat this, which is more than can be said for ours.

Italy does have the oldest population in Europe, but the problem there is that the system is overwhelmed and because staff don’t have enough protective equipment they are also getting ill reducing the system capacity further.
The latest thinking is that it will take at least three weeks of shutdown to even begin to get the crisis under any kind of control.
Stay safe everyone
