Lights, camera, action!
Let us hope that our latest telly-showing on Wednesday is a rather better visual feast than the one on this season's opening day!
You know what to do...

Away in the league, Hartlepool have gone in behind at HT only once so far. At home, we've been leading only once at HT. It's fair to say that we should expect them to have a decent amount about them which could, at a minimum, frustrate under the EP lights! (Watch it be 7-0 at HT)
I was kinda thinking we might seek someone like Blyth (Macc) as a target man to get us up the pitch but Rodney is perhaps more the 'run the ball' type who will take the opponent on. Fit and confident, he should certainly add more dynamics and could easily prove a hit.
Dan Jones at Salford, who doesn't seem to have been playing much if not injured, is the type of LB/LCB I thought we might try to get on loan. It'll be interesting to see what role T. Walker is seen as playing. Since leaving he has experienced defensive roles on the left for Salford - perhaps LB/LWB is where he might fit in given both Leesley and Hammill are already options forward of that on that side of the pitch.
Keep composed, concentrate and don't force it so much that we look reckless, ala Torquay.
Good luck to JG and the boys - let's have a strong, hard-working performance.

Exciting to see the 2 new signings - hear Walker has improved and scores a few as well as Devante. It will also create competition for places who is badly needed. Just wondering when Dux will return?
County to win this even though it's on the gogglebox

I thought Minihan was heading for man of the match with his early tenacity in the first half until Tom Walker had other ideas - sign him up (again) Jim! Really up against it after Hinchliffe's blunder, but a valuable three points to bring an excellent end to our winless run - on telly too, for good measure! Well done to Jim, his staff and the players!

particularly enjoyed the first half - better on the telly than in real life. horrible miss from bell that could have wrapped things up. it was a crime against art as much as anything else - that fabulous cross deserved to be crashed into the cheadle end goal, not into the cheadle end.

Congrats to JG and the boys. They should be really proud of putting together such a solid team performance.
The incredible workrate in the first half to deliver the well thought-out game plan and the 3-4-1-2 shape, along with getting back to some attacking principles (Thomas winning the corner from nothing and then working the 2v1 with T.Walker), was great to see. It was telling that we knew how to test their zonal marking but they didn't seem to have planned as well for the match, and they certainly didn't react quickly enough to our re-worked line-up or to test Leesley at LWB nearly enough.
T.Walker brought pace and a bit of dazzle through the middle, exploiting the spaces the movement of Bell and Thomas was helping to create. All I can really remember of him from his first stint here was wild long-range shooting - as if he felt he had to make some huge impression. Seasons on, his performance was refined, effective and mature.
Obviously we're unlikely to play this shape all the time, and it can be seriously tested by sides with wide, high attackers that flatten us into a back 5, but... so many games have seen Mulhern using his energy shuttling between CBs (2 or 3) by himself to no effect. Here Hartlepool were very much pressured by our front 3, supplemented with aggressive pressing by Leesley and Minihan on the sides. There were plenty of foot-ins and turnovers in decent areas because of it.
At the back, Arthur, Palmer and Keane were strong and commanding. Fouls crept in during the game from various players and there was a decent shout for a penalty against Leesley, who was booked for getting involved in an altercation in another incident.
A changed shape in the 2nd half after subs saw Leesley in a more familiar advanced role on the left and he put the ball on a plate for Bell with a wonderful cross, only to watch on as Bell lost all composure and absolutely leathered it for no reason at all. It was a shame as both had put in plenty to warrant getting their respective assist and goal from the night.
We have to be a little more drilled when someone's running at us and there's an overlap - a theme, again displayed tonight, is that our player defending the ball carrier doesn't seem to know he should stick to the ball carrier and that our tracker is dealing with the overlap. Several times this season, and with different players, our guy on the ball carrier gets confused and stops defending the ball carrier and gets drawn 'between stations' gifting the ball carrier easy space to get off a shot.
But this was an excellent result and clearly a super collective effort from JG down to our youngest player on the pitch.

Excellent summary as always, H - cheers! I reckon if Jim ever needs an extra pair of hands on the tactical side, he could do a lot worse than giving you a bell, mate!

Superb atmosphere at the ground - it was literally rocking. Any first timer will surely return. Good to see the flags and drum back.
