Yup, certainly didn't look confident and it all felt too shaky really. A shame because he clearly does his best and he tends to do the centre zonal role on defensive set plays. That said, he might well crash home a header from a set piece and the shakes will all be forgotten! But yeah, it's certainly a big call to play him after Saturday's showing. Thankfully, as you say, there are options.

Champagne hopes with Lemonade money - simple as that.
Something needs to change at ownership level, or we will never leave this division.

Very poor game, both sides lacking any creativity.
County pumped it long to Oswell over and over, and Chorley headed it away every time.

Champagne hopes with Lemonade money - simple as that. Something needs to change at ownership level, or we will never leave this division. Sums it up in a nutshell. More pissed off with the Gannon's got to go whingers at the end than the fact we lost. The best team won, it's as simple as that. We don't have enough quality in midfield and when pushed in that dept as we were in the second half we were left hopefully lumping it down the pitch, something their back four could have comfortably dealt with for the rest of the week. It's not much consolation right now but I doubt that either team is good enough to win promotion on the evidence of that. Anybody else heard anything to justify the talk in the queue at the turnstiles about a group of ex City players wanting to put a few quid into the club?

I've seen this being mentioned on MB a few times, with Vincent Kompany's name being associated with it - Ravanelli-esque bullshit if you ask me, mate.

Couldn't understand why they would want to tbh. At least Scholes and Co fronting the expat money behind Salford City are local. Nobody could accuse City of having any local connections these days

a mate had heard a couple of weeks ago that tony dinning's old mate michael brown is involved, and that kompany was also in on it. heard the figure of £8m, but i always think a lot of this stuff is pretty finger in the air until confirmed.

wanted us to do them, particularly when they were giving it "stockport's a shthole" and "where's your famous..." something or other -i couldn't make it out- after they scored. just came across like crap new fans. however much i wanted us to do them though, i'm also glad the season is over. it was an improvement, but it still wasn't up to much really. will be interesting to see if either new money comes in, or how the FT/PT hybrid does next season.
not a spectacle, yet again. they were niggly-dirty all over the pitch, while we were sending it long most of the game. their centre half had his forearm lying across oswell's shoulders for every challenge, so oswell could never get up. thought the ref was particularly crap.
not sure i like having to park in the far east of shaw heath now the car park's full half an hour before kick off every match. was slightly surprised that the crowd was only 6240 though - was very full in all the blocks in the main stand, and quite a lot in the paddock too. the cheadle end was fuller than i've seen in a long time. there were a couple of 'I O county's early on that sounded like they had been streamed from our league days, but the performance didn't do enough to get the crowd up really.
the closest we came first half was when their player sent a strong header at his own goal, and the 'keeper had to make a diving tip over. not much happened really, although one of theirs did charge down hinchliffe's kick and we had a moment of panic before he was penalised. at the end of the half one of theirs hit what looked a perfect volley. hinchliffe was stranded but (i think) jimmy ball managed to clear as it was heading goalwards.
the best moment in the early part of the second half was when adam thomas got away down the left. minihan was in the box and oswell and warburton were also sprinting to get in there. the chorley defender eased into thomas though so that he couldn't do anything more productive than put the ball into the side netting. later, they scored a sh*tty, scrappy goal, and the previous seventy minutes or so didn't give us a lot of hope that we would create opportunities for ourselves. and we didn't really. stephenson, on as sub, had a couple of shots blocked, and one was heading goalwards, but we never pinned them in, never had a sustained period of pressure like we used to be able to cook up in the last ten minutes of games. chorley won the ball frequently and broke out easily as by now we had so many numbers in attack. they weren't taking it into the corner though - they were putting crosses in to try and kill it entirely. virtually everything we did was just fired long, defence to attack. chorley were winning it and our midfield didn't/couldn't get up quickly enough to claim any of the second balls. it was frustrating watching. we had a lot of corners, but they counted for sod all in the end.
don't like chorley, and hope they get smashed. wonder how quiet it will be at harrogate on sunday with none of the county fans turning up? my brother and cousin had three tickets in the harrogate end between them (bought online), and i heard various others talking about having them. harrogate have still got the money for them, but it won't help the atmosphere.
anyway gents, it has been a long one, but now it's over. see you next season! (apart from word association/cinema thread/off topic/general football thread/new arrivals/world cup...where we'll be every day...)

I thought we did ok first half and played with good tempo. We were on the front foot and kept pressure on with some nicely taken corners. For all the pressure though, there was a distinct lack of chances being created. In fact, I think their 'keeper only had to save from a rather wonderful header from his teammate. At the other end, their LB hit a great volley from distance and Turnbull did well to stop it.
When the half ended it felt like we just needed to get the ball more to feet, especially for Warburton and Ball to impact things. Their danger looked to be how they were using their forward line. Although Chorley played in their usual solid shape, they had some fluidity up top. They used a standard #9 but then had 2 attackers with a lot of freedom which, again, was a slight different tactic to the one used at EP during the season (the tactic used that day had also caused issues). As such, it sometimes meant that we had 3 CBs and only their #9 up top and their other attackers were able to get them up the pitch and link. One of those attackers (their #7) was actually pretty good to be fair - probably the best performer on the night. Apparently he signed in January from... Clitheroe (if I just googled correctly).
Unfortunately, things fizzled away quite badly in the 2nd half, with only really Stephenson offering much during a brief cameo. Our play went extremely sloppy - poor decision making at the back, sliced clearances, kicks out of play etc. Given Chorley had two extra games last week and some of ours were rested on Saturday, they were able to physically compete all over to the last minute which was quite impressive. Their tactic of having a solid shape and limiting balls to midfield worked as we continually hit long balls at Oswell. It became like the Brackley game where it just seemed the way we were attempting to play didn't get anything from our attackers but played straight into their CBs hands. In essence, Ball wasn't in the game and neither was Warburton. Oswell was left fighting on straight balls with few crosses going in. There was an agonising moment when a corner went in and was flicked just wide at the far post but other than that and a Stephenson attempt that was blocked, it all felt rather tame and predictable.
In the end, there are no complaints with the result. They edged it overall and their gameplan got the best from their personnel and they played the dark arts when needed. It's not pretty but it obviously works for them. Our MOM was announced as Minihan, who would likely not have been in the team except for Duxbury's injury. I thought Winter did well again and, since the turn of the year, he's probably been one of, if not the best, performer.
As said previously, I doubt any of those not already signed will be retained as this move to professionalise continues. If that's the case, then the likes of Smalley have really done their best - playing through a fractured foot last year and making over 100 appearances after coming up divisions.
On JG... the only negatives from the Main Stand I heard were about the ref's performance and our long ball play. We stayed until JG had gone off the pitch after the players had done their lap and only positive things were shouted from what I heard.

Simply not good enough from the players, I was surprised to see Turnbull go off, when I thought he was performing better than Winter who I just simply don’t rate but I more than trust JG’s judgement.
All in all I think with making the playoffs and a very good run in the Trophy it has to go down as a positive season, the first time we’ve truly believed in 10 years.

Was too gutted last night to post, but mostly because I'd had to console Sandy Jnr for a full ten minutes at the final whistle, while he sobbed his little heart out. He deserved/deserves better.
However, I think - on reflection - I would prefer to go out of the play-offs last night, than have to face a long drive back from Harrogate having been utterly spanked at their place (which, based on last night's performance, we would have been - and hopefully Chorley will face the same fate).

Was totally gutted last night but even said to my missus a week or so ago that even if we did beat Chorley I couldn't see us getting past Harrogate or Brackley unfortunately.
It was nice to get excited about something County related for the first time in a bloody long time so it was nice while it lasted. I just hope that we can go back to being full time sooner than later as that is the only way we'll get out of this living nightmare! I can't fault the players or Jim to be honest but can't help but think that the players will now be sat at their desks doing their day jobs not giving a thought to last night now! A full time team is the only way forward in my eyes.

Disappointing but not unexpected. In short, whichever way you cut it, we weren’t ready to go up. Our record against the top sides this season was woeful. But until we go full time I think it’s as good as it’ll get, sadly.
