It’s almost impossible to live without internet access these days. Looking for jobs is just one of the things that you need to be plugged in for. That’s why the Government worked with providers to bring in social tariffs for people on benefits who can’t afford internet bills, because not having data keeps people locked in poverty. However, big companies like EE, Vodafone, Virgin Media O2 and Three aren’t letting people know they can access these rates. Ant, we were shocked to see that only Vodafone had their social tariff listed on the Ofcom website. Only 5% of people who are eligible are accessing these lower prices and it’s no surprise when the companies seem to keep the information buried on their websites. Normally we would write to ask for your help getting a company to change their policies. This time, it’s about getting EE, Vodafone, Virgin Media O2 and Three to advertise an existing one. Who will be the first to launch an awareness raising campaign so people entitled to lower prices can access them? And who is going to keep them hidden? Can you sign the petition today calling on the UK’s biggest mobile providers to make sure eligible customers can access lower prices? you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/promote-the-use-of-social-tariffs?source=rawlink&utm_medium=socialshare&utm_source=rawlink&share=84c89e48-dd75-42dc-9e92-1b253016e1b3Signed. Best of luck persuading EE. They increased their tariff mid contract (again) by 15% this year, profiteering bastards! Happily I've just been able to bale out and get superfast broadband for 30% less with a guarantee of no rise for the duration of the 2 year contract.

Signed. You will find another worthwhile petition if you go onto the RMT website. I haven't posted a link because they've done it on a region by region basis but they are attempting to stop the closure of rail station ticket offices. One of the last twitches of one of the most repulsive iterations of the Tory Party in my lifetime and another attempt at destroying much of the traditional infrastructure in this country before they are consigned to the dustbin of history. Interestingly, neither the Scottish or Welsh Governments are following their lead on this.

I've added my name to the email campaigns for Avanti (Stockport, Piccadilly) & Northern (Liverpool Lime Street) stations, and I've also signed the petition too. I'll share this with everyone I know. Merseyrail, another service I use on my travels to and from Stockport, will not be taking part: "Merseyrail is a devolved rail operator and is not part of the current consultation. Responsibility for the region's rail operator lies with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and not with national bodies.
The ECHO understands there are no current plans to close ticket offices on the Merseyrail network.
Merseyrail is pushing ahead with plans to introduce smart ticketing on its network. Last month the ECHO reported that tap and go ticketing technology, where people can use contactless bank cards to pay for tickets could start to be rolled out as early as March 2024.
While Merseyrail stations are as yet unaffected, the city line that includes a number of stations within the region is likely to be impacted by ticket office closures."www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/train-companies-plan-mass-ticket-27259245Cheers for posting, Yorks.

Nearly 20 years after a ban on hunting was introduced, animals like foxes and deer are still being killed in the name of sport across the UK’s countryside. This cruel activity has been banned in England and Wales since 2004 but two decades on, the law is failing us all. Scientific evidence shows that the animals targeted in fox hunting suffer physical and mental stress when chased by a hunt, whether or not they are eventually killed. It's appalling that this still goes on. That’s why a coalition of animal welfare groups including RSPCA, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, League Against Cruel Sports and many more have teamed up and launched a 38 Degrees petition calling on the Government to strengthen and improve the Hunting Act 2004. It could be the start of a HUGE campaign to get real change - but only if enough of us sign. So, can you sign the petition today to help ban fox hunting - and other cruel sports - in the UK for good? you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/time-for-change-no-more-fox-hunting?source=rawlink&utm_medium=socialshare&utm_source=rawlink&share=c6c84b4c-5952-4cf8-8e34-a5bac91f3dcbGoes without saying.

Here's an update from the Organise member who started the action Stop London bus drivers passing out in high temperatures!: "Please everybody help make this happen. A bus isn't by law considered as a work place. So there's no law or legislation on having working Air-cooling and Air-conditioning or heating. I've known temperatures to reach 48 degrees it's dangerous and unacceptable" Stop London bus drivers passing out in high temperatures! organise.network/s/ecc1e8How can a taxi be classed as a place of work (I've been told this by many cab drivers when they state the reasons they can't smoke in their own cab, even when it's empty), yet a bus isn't? It's ridiculous.

Yet more scumbaggery (is that even a word? Well it is now!) "Dear River Supporter,
You may have seen the news today that Government has bowed to pressure from house building lobbyists and are talking about scrapping ‘nutrient neutrality rules’. These rules provide a glimmer of hope for some of our most protected rivers by ensuring development does not further add to pollution of rivers. Without them, developers can build freely without having to off-set the pollution they will create. New houses will put more pressure on the waterways and there’ll be no ways to make polluters pay for the damage. Today, the future of rivers look very bleak.
How dare the government ignore us, the public, who are up in arms about river pollution on a daily basis.
It is absolutely absurd for the government to roll back on this when Britain’s rivers are dying. They are overflowing with harmful levels of nutrients from agricultural, sewage and chemical pollution, killing aquatic life from the Tyne to the Tamar.
This is just the latest in a series of deregulation decisions that puts profits over nature. Enough is enough.
Rivers need us.
Thank you.
Harri and The River Action Team."you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/restore-our-rivers-and-freshwaters-to-health-by-2030
