Howson will certainly help them over the remainder of the season in terms of physicality and leadership at the back. He's also been able to play in a 3 at the back which Southport may well return to. However, I'm not sure he'll have even trained with his new colleagues yet if he signed yesterday morning so I'll remain confident of a comfortable scoreline (famous last words).
Here's hoping it's not a replay given we're away at Brackley on Saturday and could well do without a Wednesday evening game.

HT here and the game is as bad as weather. Our goal came from a brave aerial challenge from Walker than similar bravery from Warburton in the tackle. Ball was worked across to Dixon who finished well. They got behind Dux for theirs and O'Halloran's poor header went to them for a simple finish.
We've changed formation with Mantack in for Walker to go with a back 3. Don't hold out much hope for Walker being in the squad much longer with being subbed mid-half again. Went straight to tunnel without shaking JG's hand.
Anyway, game lacks tempo and quality so far.
------
Well, 2nd half was poor too and our tempo only really picked up in the last 10 minutes or so. For their 2nd, and following a similar pattern of a bunch of goals this season, they worked it down our left and centred for a simple slot home from Gilchrist. Winter did well when he came on and it was only when we got down the sides (as you would expect against CBs) that we looked threatening. Mantack a couple of times did ok and one piece of work from him nearly created a goal. Stephenson slotted home his easy finish and everyone celebrated his 1st goal for the club. Stopforth was the clear MOM for me today but too few were winning their battles today which explains a draw against a poor side.

Not helped with a very poor ref offering our players little protection and not being consistent, and a moanstand liner who mightconsider retirement. We were poor today and it took us a long time to really get going. It would be useful to see the match stats in terms of possession, shots on target, corners, fouls etc. which wouldnt show us in a good light. Okay the weather was abysmal but we should have done better. One positive was Stephenson finally getting on the scoresheet which should hopefully boost his confidence going forwards. The replay is a match we could do without but we could do with the 5K. It will be interesting to see what team is played then.

Yup, it was a very poor group of officials today and, just as one example, Oswell was ridden all game. I suppose it was more noticeable because we persisted in playing balls up to him, 40 yards from their goal, where he had to fight with his back against bigger CBs... to try to win mostly pointless flicks to no-one. Given our only width was Cowan/Duxbury (as FBs) in the starting line-up, and then Mantack/Duxbury (as WBs and then FBs) thereafter, perhaps it wasn't too surprising that we failed to get high and wide very often to cross from the areas which has set up many an Oswell goal. And with each tactical shape used really needing strong performances from those who could provide width, it was unfortunate that Duxbury, who has done well overall this season, had his worst game for a long time. Anyway, I thought Winter twigged as to what was needed from central midfield when he played into space down the sides a few times forcing players to go high and wide and get balls in. It was just a little too late in the day overall.

that's a ball ache of a result. i was loosely intending to go to brackley - it's a long way but not a bad run really, and so far i'm two wins and a draw down there...but the extra game beforehand is a bit of a f***er.
