I'm hugely disappointed with the fixtures.
I will definitely miss our first home game, and possibly the one which follows on the Saturday. My planned seaside jaunt to Southport looks less favourable now that it's in January, and I can't make the one away fixture I was really looking forward to (York). In fact, apart from the home fixture for my birthday weekend yet again (although it's no longer Staly as it has been for 3 of the past 4 birthdays), these fixtures couldn't have been much worse.
Bah.

At least it's going to be our last season against these opponents Sandy!!

I find it annoying that the season starts with a tough set of Saturday-Tuesday games. Playing 5 games in 15 days must surely favour the full-timers / clubs who can afford a larger squad, and is probably also an injury risk for players who are still building match-fitness. I always feel like County's performances take a noticeable dip when playing twice a week.

True JLC, but you would also hope playing Tuesday/Saturday is better for fitness during August/Sept, rather than in the depths of winter on heavy pitches.
Jim also said he was pleased with the fitness/condition of his squad when they came back for pre season this week, so hopefully we will be raring to go and can hit the ground running!

Could be a problem in January and February when the pitches are heavier.

Agree with everything said. I'm sure recovery is always aided if not having to go driving a truck etc. the following morning... but at the same time we should have a fitter bunch. I think jlc's feeling of midweek games impacting results was certainly on show last season. That said, our two losses in August were against part-time sides.
Compared with last season, we look a more experienced, balanced and fitter group. Last time out, we were starting the season with clearly unfit players: CMW (who managed to remain unfit all season), Rule and Spencer. Thomas was also making the bench for a month or so with an ACL injury. Our defence shipped 11 in the opening 5 and, in those early games, an unproven Carney was one of the better bench options. West was used too. While no-one can help getting an impact injury, having any players too unfit to play a game due to not working hard to be in shape isn't something a small squad can afford.
Here's to a squad of hard-working cyclists and not air-pedallers!

Totally pointless having 7 games in Aug and Sept and 4 in November. Why?

all the crappy cups start then ceef. woo. we could go a whole couple of rounds in the FA trophy, or might even qualify for the first round proper of the FA cup. i.e. the pointless part of the season.

One fixture date-change in the offing - and incorporated in the schedule on our locked thread:
The trip to Bradford Park Avenue, over Easter weekend next year, is being brought forward 24 hours from Saturday, 31st to Good Friday, 30th March.
Kick-off remains at 3pm.

That's good, as assuming we play on bank holiday Monday it gives us an extra day of rest. Wonder who has instigated that and if we'll see those changes league-wide with most or all games moving.

I think that we were behind bringing forward our home fixture with Telford in a similar way last season... not that it did us a great deal of good, mind, either against them or at Bromsgrove three days later . But, yes, the following match this time around is again on Easter Monday - and a potentially tough one against Tamworth. The additional 24 hours will hopefully help!
