Why the hell are we in discussions with Amis?! To get a refund on the fee we paid Northwich?

Sorry to see Kay go, I think he had another season in him. Good luck.
I believe when he was playing we had a better win ratio than when 'others' played instead of him

Gutted about the loss of Mark Ross and Big Kay.
Ross was a key part of our impenetrable defence and seemed to be a good leader as well, as for Big Kay, it's no secret that I'm a big fan of his...I think he's received some hugely undeserved criticism this season and granted, he's not a prolific goalscorer...but in all of our years in Non-League, I have never seen a striker with such control, strength and an awareness for what's going on around him. If we had someone like Phil Jevons up top with Kay I think it'd be put into sharper focus just how good he actually is.
Either way, I'm a bit wary but I trust Jim 1,000,000%

Either way, I'm a bit wary but I trust Jim 1,000,000% This is absolutely key, Fudgie (and welcome back, by the way!). There will always be one or two players on the discarded list whose inclusion arouses surprise/regret. Having got to know this season's players to some extent, I would add that Rossy and Kay are among the genuinely nicest guys you could meet in any walk of life, too. I am sorry to see both of them leave - on a personal, as well as a professional, level. But, setting sentiment aside, neither - despite his merits - was a first-choice player as the season went on. And Jim will surely have a plan further to strengthen the squad in their respective areas that will be more likely to get us over the line in a year's time. A year ago, many were lamenting the release of Danny Morton - and, given that he was our Young Player of the Season, there were serious doubts, even on the part of Jim's most loyal advocates, that the manager might have made the wrong call there. Then Sam Minihan arrived... Happy to see Brazel, Cartwright, Smalley and Thomas among the players with whom discussions are in train. Amis and West are interesting ones, and will divide opinion. But the plans for our front-line are going to remain fluid until Lloyd's position is resolved one way or the other, and - with their being young, on relatively low wages, and (in Jim's judgement, which will be better than mine) possessing some potential - I can see the logic of keeping them in play as possible members of the wider squad. When all is said and done, we have a better core of players definitely signed up, and ready to go, than we did this time last year - and the foundations are a million times stronger than those of two years back when the payroll had a goalkeeper and... erm, well, that was it... Looking forward with baited breath now to hearing the next tranches of news, as new players are brought in and existing ones (hopefully!) commit. In the meantime, I have updated the squad-list on our separate, locked thread.

Hopefully Jim will have all his business done pretty early then a full or nearly full squad is in place for a full pre season.

Why the hell are we in discussions with Amis?! Good question, gts, but I'm not surprised. Jim speaks of being loyal to young players and investing in their development. I think this is how he sees Amis. Our problem has been that we've had to rely on him too much this season, so his development has been largely in front of the crowds. It's all well and good having a player with potential, but you can't rely on them every week. Hopefully we can get some decent strikers and, if Amis stays, he can continue his development as a sub and Jim's evident belief in him will spur him on. And speaking of potential, are there any names from Alan Lord's squad who are being mentioned as stepping up? Save

Not sure that there are any from the Academy who will be ready, just yet, Eppers.
The handful of young players who were given a run-out in our two Cheshire Senior Cup-ties looked to have potential - but also to need a further year to get up to standard for the demands of the NLN.

While Josh is still young, he's not that young as he'll be turning 23 shortly after the start of the season. Unfortunely I just don't see that he has a high enough ceiling for his potential to be what we need.
The one mercy is that he's probably on low wages, but that's about it. His natural lack of mobility isn't helped by the fact he's a stone overweight as well.

I was also amazed that Amis is still in with a chance of staying, but he's probably much cheaper than Big Kay and less likely to get into a Twitter fight with fans than Sefton. Like most people, I thought we'd probably keep one of the three big forwards, and there's not really much to choose between them.
In defence of Amis, I think he would benefit from a few months of just coming on for the last 10-20 minutes and having a go against a tired defence. Hopefully, Jim is going to bring in a new front line of top quality, and Amis can develop without pressure. At times it has felt like he has been given too much first team exposure, for too long, too soon. Reminded me a bit of Ormson's situation when he first came through.
