Ceefer is your host this week....
FK Rabotnicki (Macedonia)
The club was formed in 1937 and are based in the Debar Maalo, one of the oldest districts of Skopje and after proving their football was of a high enough standard, joined the Yugoslavian Second Division. As part of the club, a chess club and library were also introduced.
This is a multifunctional sports arena, used mainly for football matches, but also for music concerts and other events.
Ceefer is your host this week....
Roda JC (Netherlands)
Roda JC are a Dutch team situated in the Limburg town of Kerkrade in Southern part of the Netherlands. They play in the Dutch Eredivisie which is the ‘Premier League’. ‘Sadly’ Murdoch bought the rights in 2012 -2024 for this League paying around 1 billion euros and the top 5 teams are paid 5 million Euros a season.
They were formed in 1962 when there was a merger of Rapid JC and Roda Sport. For any ‘genealogists’ amongst you the club can trace its roots back to Club Juliana in 1910 and 6 clubs disappeared along the way to morph into Roda JCT. The full name is Roda Juliana Combinatie Kerkrade.
They have 2 fine nicknames ‘De Koempels’ (The Miners) and De Trots van het Zuiden (The Pride of the South).
They have played since 2000 on the artificial turf in the 20,000 seater ‘Parkstad Limburg Stadion’.
Largest Crowd: 19.300 Roda JC – AC Milan 0–1 UEFA Cup, 21 February 2002
Lowest Crowd: 2.500 Roda JC – Fylkir 3–0 UEFA Cup, 11 September 2001
They play in black and orange. Away colours are blue and white.
The current manager is Greek Yannis Anastasiou who scored the first goal at the new stadium. Roda JC currently languish in 16th place out of 18 in the Eredivisie having played 29 games, won 5 drawn 11 and lost 13. The future doesn’t look to be Orange.
I’ve looked through the current squad and the only player of note are Welshman Simon Church…. Who? and Dutchman Christian Kum.
Honours – KNVB (League) Cup Winners 1996–97, 1999–2000 & EreDivisie Runners Up 1994–95
Claim to fame (1) - Their most memorable European game was played on 28 February 2002. After a 0–1 defeat by AC Milan in Kerkrade, Roda caused panic at San Siro by winning the return leg by the same score. They even took the lead in the penalty shoot-out, but ended up losing the series, only being one penalty away from eliminating the Italian giants.
Claim to fame (2) – Michel Pfeiffer was once their manager…. (almost got you there)….
Claim to fame (3) Following their mining heritage, the club webshop are selling these 2 items…….
Their nickname is 'Hero' as sadly 14 members of the team and staff were killed during World War 2.
After the war and liberation the Rabotnicki sports department organised the first volleyball match in Macedonia , and also founded a skiclub and an athletics club. Shortly afterwards they formed the Rabotnicki basketball club.
Rabotnicki made their debut in the top division in 1952 but were relegated back to the Second League.
FK Rabotnicki play their home matches in the National Arena “Filip Vtori” (also known as the Telekom Arena).
This is a multifunctional sports arena, used mainly for football matches, but also for music concerts and other events.
FK Vardar (leaders) and the Macedonian national team also play their home matches in this stadium. It was built in 1947, but totally renovated in 2011, and has capacity for 32,580 fans.
Macedonia split from Yugoslavia and became a Republic in 1991.
The club's most successful years were between 2001 and 2008 when the club was acquired by the Kometal company. In 2002/03 they finished second in the national league and competed in the UEFA Cup; they won the national championship (2004/05) and competed in the qualifications for the UEFA Champions League. In (2007/08) they had their best year by winning the double crown.
In 2008 Kometal left Rabotnicki and took over the FK Vardar football club.
The home kit is all red and the away light blue.
They finished 3rd in the Macedonian First league (formed 1992/3) having played 25, having Won 12, Drawn 6 and Lost 7.
Claim to Fame (1) they were the host of the first evening football match played in Macedonia. They played Makedonija on 20 June 1946 and lost 10, with floodlighting provided by 14 lights that were brought from the Macedonian Theatre in Skopje.
Claim to Fame (2) - They played Liverpool on 29 July 2010 in the UEFA Europa League 3rd qualifying round losing both the home and away matches 2–0.
It appears to be a family affair where club officials are concerned. Dragan Popovski is President, Ilija Popovski is VP, Ivan Popovski is Sports Director and Risto Popovski is Financial Director. I wonder what Mrs. Popovski does?
And now off to the Orient...
They were founded in 1949 as the 'Yamaguchi Teachers', but morphed into 'Renofa Yamaguchi FC' in 2006. Apparently the word 'Renofa' refers to the words 'renovation, fight and fine'.
The old crest was used from 2006 until 2013:
and replaced with a re-branded one thereafter:
They are a semi professional team and play at the Yamaguchi Ishin Park Stadium, which was built in 1963, has a running track and a capacity of around 20,000.
The home kit is orange and black and the away is a mix of grey white and orange.
Between 2006 and 2013 they played in the Chugoku League and had to wait until the 2008 season to record their first league win. They improved so much that season and finished 4th in the Japanese Regional Football League Competition, narrowly missing promotion to the Japan Football League.
They had to wait until 2013 to gain promotion to the JFL 3rd Division.
In 2015 they gained promotion to the JFL second division where they currently play.
They are managed by Nobuhiro Ueno (probably known as Nobby...will this lead their fans to adopt our famous song)?
Amazingly they have just 1 foreign player on the books who is defender Chan-Yong Park from South Korea. The club finished 12th in 2016. They are now involved in a relegation battle in 19th place.
They have a massive online shop at www.renofa.com/ with loads of tat.... including their reknowned mascot Renomaru...
So over to you the 'rock steady County Heaven crew'....
Get voting.....
