What kind of imbecile thinks that the solution to the problem of vast numbers of firearms on the streets is.....to put more firearms on the streets? Oh yes, the kind of imbecile that persuades similarly retarded people, of which there seem to be very many, to vote him as Pres. I heard an interview with the parent of a child who goes to this school who, on the day of the shooting said, in answer to a question that he "....doesn't want the Government to take my gun off me". What can you say to someone like that?
I once worked with a senior Boeing Engineer who had a small gun rack in the cab of his pick up ffs! If he'd had a particularly bad day he liked to stop off on the way home, wander into the woods like some kind of deranged Daniel Boone and slaughter the local wildlife. They have frontiersmen associations which allow such people to meet fellow sufferers and spend their weekends recreating the wild west! Greatest nation on earth? Wtf!

yet they still fight for their right to bear arms in America and that's the relatively moderate end. there are also all sorts of survivalists and militias who would fight for their constitutional right to the death. a significant toughening of the gun laws is the only thing i could ever see causing a revolutionary uprising in the states, and those who would fight for their continued right are dangerous, angry empty vessels. it's not 'liberal' to want to reduce the conditions in which school shootings can so easily occur. like NYE says - their answer is more guns. more "good guys" with guns. no more nuanced than that. can you imagine the carnage? frankie says 'arm the unemployed'. trump says 'arm the christian right'. that mentality could result in another bit of frankie's output: "when you hear the air attack warning, you and your family must take cover..."

bbc article on it www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-43158994includes "The NRA released an advertisement Thursday morning saying "the mainstream media love mass shootings"." crass enough for you? an ADVERTISEMENT?!? the head of the NRA "criticised America's "European-style socialists" for urging gun control." how many gun homicides and mass shootings do us european socialists experience?

well that's the thing gazz. again in answer to him, you could point out that we don't have the same numbers of shootings, but we still have the violent movies and video games. why's that? the whole debate is to either ignore the availability of guns, or suggest increasing it as a solution!
i could cope with it more if trump, the right (primarily) and the gun lobby was saying 'ok. there's some aspects of our right to bear arms that can be problematic, but we still believe in the right to bear arms'. but they don't.
instead they present things simplistically like a cautionary tale for children, and drag the usual suspects into the ring as a smokescreen. that, for me, ends up being the most frustrating thing about the whole subject - not the deaths, but the fact that more are inevitable due to the refusal to accept that they are related to a wider societal issue in the states, that is shown in clear relief by the rest of the west not having those issues to anything like the same degree, and then cheaply blaming 'grand theft auto' when the rest of the world plays it too.

This is absolutely spot on. And the doubly-frustrating thing seems to be that too many of 'his people' are dumb, pig-headed or self-interested enough to accept it all without question.

And... who am I to generalise, but... a good far too many for my liking are not even playing dumb!

California are the only state in the US to ban bump stops. Trump did allude to the possibility of introducing a flat ban I wont hold my breath

I read an article yesterday looking at why they are all male shooters, linking it to the possibility that being a ‘man’ is difficult for a lot of people to achieve in terms of physical or sporting prowess.
So these ‘loners’ look for other ways to prove that they are a man.

So these ‘loners’ look for other ways to prove that they are a man. Lock them in a padded cell with a lifetime supply of Jazz mags and leave them to prove they're men to their heart's content, leaving their would-be victims to go home safely to their families every day.

reading an 80's thriller in which all the top mob bosses are meeting in new jersey. meeting at trump plaza. was thinking how far-fetched it was. or not.
the only far-fetched thing from the mid-80's perspective was that trump, rather than owning a hotel playing host to organised crime lords, would one day be running the biggest racket of all. although the incumbent president at the time was a cowboy actor, so we probably shouldn't have had too many expectations of the american electorate...

If your kid gets attacked at school with a stick, what do you do? a. Give him a big stick to use as defence b. Give the teachers a big stick to control the kids c. Take the sticks off the kids
Trump: ooh, it sounds like a trick question. No, no, by my logic, it’s definitely ‘b’.
