I'm not normally gawpish at these sort of things, but as my 18 year old son was involved in 2 non-injury involved accidents (including one on a motorway) that were both his fault I thought I would see. He was obviously driving dangerously, and the effects of this were sadly seen on the aftermath of the incident. But his instant reaction was to get out of his car and see what he could do. No running away, no on his phone seeing what to do. He was stupid, driving a car more powerful than I can afford even now, but there was no intent. It was a horrific accident, but an accident. I'm not judging you Fudge or anyone else who won't support him, I would like to think that he has admitted his fault, accepted his punishment and served his time.

what's going on with the picture on the COWS article by the way? have they been photoshopped onto the background? jim looks like a cardboard cut-out, and the player appears to have been sprinkled with fairy dust...

I'm not judging you Fudge or anyone else who won't support him, I would like to think that he has admitted his fault, accepted his punishment and served his time. that's it - we all have our personal perspective, which informs our moral line. i personally can't forgive the cowardly cruelty of lee hughes running away from both the car he hit and the three passengers trapped in his own car. it's just compounded by the other example of his behaviour, the fact that he and jason roberts were investigated (although not charged) about having beaten someone up in 2000, and that he had a previous drink-driving conviction. we will have to see, but for me, a terrible lesson after a moment (or even at 18, a mindset) of stupidity, could be something different if he's a different man now.

Likewise, Duds...I wouldn't judge you, nor anyone else for singing his name for a full 90 minutes if you so desired! It's each persons own personal preference.
I don't feel the actions of the young lad were even close to the same as Lee Hughes and I do believe he deserves another shot at life, it just feel unfair to me that 2 people have to live without their parents whilst the person responsible plays football for a living...now that isn't trying to guilt trip anyone...it's simply the reason I find it hard to come around to him but of course everyone will see it differently.
I will also be willing him to score and I will applaud every tackle and good clearance he makes like I would every other player...it's just I personally wouldn't cross the line into a sort of light hero worshiping territory! Not that I'm suggesting anyone else would, it's just how I see it personally.

I'm torn here. I agree with the notion that he has stood up and accepted his punishment like a man when, by all accounts, his actions were very much those of a boy. And there is a huge chasm of difference between his situation and that of Lee H*ghes, but equally I tend to agree with Fudgie. I will want him to succeed, but would feel awkward chanting his name and, from my own point of view, I would think it best to avoid CH considering him for our annual sponsorship.

It's a delicate situation isn't it, obviously what he did was reckless and stupid and caused a lifetime of suffering for the victims family aswel as having to live everyday with the thoughts/images in his head of the tragic events he caused. He went to prison for what he did and was released early, which is not his fault but the fault of our justice system!
I will not have a problem getting behind any player that pulls on the County shirt and will stand up, cheer, applaud and sing any players name that deserves it while on the pitch. What gets me is that some of the people that are not happy about his past will have at some point in their own life broken the law! Whether it be speeding, drink driving (99% of people that say they've never had a couple of pints and drove home is a liar!), Stealing some pick n mix from Woolworths (we all did it!!) or whatever but we've all at some point broken the law but have been lucky enough to not be caught! Please don't think I'm defending his terrible actions because I am not in the slightest, I'm just pointing out that we've all made mistakes in the past regardless of how big or small they are and have to live with them, put them behind us and move on. That is what he has to do now too.
This is purely my opinion and no offence to anyone else's opinions was never intended.
Come on County, Onwards and upwards, Animo et Fide.

I would think it best to avoid CH considering him for our annual sponsorship. Without departing from the personal view I posted yesterday - but with external perceptions (be they right or wrong) of CH as a forum in mind - I think that's a very fair point, Sandy.

I'd tend to agree as well...whilst I think it should be a case of everyone having an opinion. I think it seems like it could cause problems somewhere down the line...not necessarily on here, as there is a great deal of mutual respect on here, but with some of our more opinionated fans who may use it against us.

Emphasis on the victims and also the fact that he has to live with the guilt for the rest of his life....

I will want him to succeed, but would feel awkward chanting his name and, from my own point of view, I would think it best to avoid CH considering him for our annual sponsorship. we don't do a lot of 'there's only one #### #######' anymore really. ian ormson got it a bit last season but IMO that felt like trying to show that he had support after some morons had behaved like arseholes towards him. ...so i wouldn't worry too much. ...and while i wouldn't be averse to us sponsoring a player, isn't sponsoring alan lord our thing?

Lordy gets my vote every time, there's no greater servant to the club in my opinion.

yeah, although it's a slightly premature discussion, i'd be happy to go with AL again. one of the things at this level is players can get moved on without much warning. hard to imagine the same happening to someone so integral.

Good point that, ars. If I remember rightly we had Lamin Colley on our shortlist at one point last summer!

with the absence both of goals and the player table guest at the end of season awards, it would have been only slightly better value for money than angel di maria at united...
