What a shock to wake up to this morning. Another musical legend gone - and, for me, one of the greatest. Ever.
So saddened at the news - and deepest condolences to his family and friends. Remembering him here with my fave track of his... feel free to add your own, fellow Heaveners...
RIP, David.

Stunned. That really has shocked me.
The world has lost its greatest musical innovator ever.
The thin white Duke is irreplaceable, there'll never be another. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who knew and worked with him.
RIP, David.
Absolutely gutted.

Erratum.
He should have been The Thin White Knight.

I was absolutely gutted this morning when I woke up and found out. Did really not see that coming, the world has lost an absolute legend, and you are spot on to call him music's greatest ever innovator. Nobody has or could do what he has done before or since.
Hard to pick just one, but this is my favourite for cranking up loud in the car when I'm in a good mood!

can't believe it. wasn't aware of it until i read this thread. 'hunky dory' has been one of my favourite albums for the best part of 30 years. so much to praise him for, from the distinctiveness of his voice generally, or the soaring vocal leaps in 'starman' or 'life on mars'.
it's the breadth of it all though. how do you possibly go from 'cygnet committee' or 'the man who sold the world', to 'sound and vision' and 'golden years'?
can't believe it. RIP, ziggy, the jean genie, aladdin sane, the thin white duke and the rest.

Never really got him or his music, there was a couple of his songs I liked but that's about it.
Still very sad news though and RIP David.

Talk about timing... have just arrived home to find my pre-ordered copy of Blackstar waiting on the mat.
That's my evening listening sorted, then. In fact, am already into the first play - and one track, Lazarus, includes the line, 'Look up here, I'm in Heaven'.
He knew...

Wouldn't expect anything less from him Macca, writing his own obituary in a strange kind of way. He bowed out in typical Bowie fashion.

Spot on, g_t_s.
My fave cover version of his - in its full, album-length glory, and with a poignant art-house vid:

RIP. A brilliant musician who will be sorely missed.
Heroes was one of my favorites.
The evenings at the Ranch Bar in Manchester wouldnt have been the same without his music.

Love that animation, ars, superb that. Still in shock here too, mate, it just doesn't seem real.
Watching Cameron on TV today paying his token 'I was his biggest fan' tribute, and I just thought: "Why the f**k couldn't it have been you instead?"
The man upstairs clearly has no class. First Lemmy, then Brad, now the greatest of them all - he's taking some serious f***ing liberties now.

There are too many Bowie classics to mention, but for something you may not have heard before, check out his collaboration with Placebo on their song 'Without You I'm Nothing'. His voice on that track is haunting, as it often was.
Heroes is my favourite song of his, but I might have to watch Labyrinth again too. What a soundtrack.
R.I.P David. We've lost another great.
