It sounded okay to me, mate, but I was listening on my earphones which always helps. Shame about the Boston edit, that would have been interesting - damn that censor!

Some people listen to it in the car with the windows down, then complain.
Yeah the censor stick had to come out, it got as bit hairy! :-)

On the Scarf Bergara Wore podcast we're doing a County Cult Hero Coca Cola Cup - a knock out competition of players who aren't necessarily in the hall of fame, but are favourites, for whatever reason, with the fans. Any era, but they must have played first team.
Who would you have in the cup?
We'll make the draw from the most voted, then each episode of the podcast we'll do 'fors' and 'againsts' for each tie, then put out the vote on social media to decide the winner.
As we get towards the final, we'll get those most vocal about their choice to come on the podcast and face-off against each other.
Reply to add who you'd like to have in the cup and we'll get it going.
Any takers?

i think most of mine would be the same as most others of my era, but i always thought kevin cooper was a little underappreciated. from the ice-cool penalties in the promotion run in, singing 'sign him up' in a friendly at macc, notching a couple as we won 4-3 at wolves, the beauty against charlton, hard work every week, and being a proper county man - sitting with us county fans away at crewe, and being first across at selhurst park to applaud us when we'd been relegated, despite playing for the opposition that day. not a weird cult hero, but a cult hero nonetheless.
and the ultimate in cult heroes, this giant, gangly black man, constantly winding us up to make more noise, able equally to shin it into the reservoir or perfectly execute an overhead kick. no one has ever felt to me more like an avatar on the pitch for a football fan. just brilliant.
andy gorton made the best saved i'd ever seen live, and against burnley to boot. disappeared off the map after appearing to have a number of screws not just loose, but having detached entirely, bounced down the road, and into a drain.
terry park purred around the midfield, shirt out, making everything look so easy. first player i really liked at county.
tommy sword. decent central defender, passable centre forward, did one of the only silly-pose-with-props-for-the-papers photos that i can ever remember from a county player.
chris byrne. got the other two at wolves that day. cost a decent fee, scored a few goals. looked three stone wringing wet, but three stone of bad little scally. burgled a chemist. got shot in the arse. cult hero enough?

listened to the first half of the december podcast the other day. haven't been keeping up with county media much because i've fallen into an apathetic fugue about county. great stuff though. i really like how stopforth is mostly as thick as a teddy boy's soles, but still uncovers little nuggets of human truth. very glad he came back - i always feel better when there's an obvious heartbeat on and off the pitch.

Absolutley brilliant this - cheers mate. I'll add these to the list - can I have your permission to read out your snippets too? I read them to myself with gusto and passion, as I hope they were written Lovely stuff - and just waht I was after! Cheers for the positive comments about the podcast too. In these dark days, because that EXACTLY what they are, we're trying to add a bit of light, and humour (not light humour!) to the timeline. Keeps it all bearable I suppose.

yeah, course you can. i kept strictly to players i actually liked - i know nowadays people might pick a waste of oxygen like barry conlon or brian carrigan as a 'cult hero' because they think the term encompasses minor notoriety without the player necessarily having to be decent or an honest trier. i think there has to be the 'hero' element there too personally.
and the reason i ought to listen more is exactly that it is a shaft of light in the dull times.

The chaps at County Podcast released their latest excellent offering the other day. It can be heard at scarfbergarawore.co.uk or on iTunes. "Ben McKenna talks Gannon, Cones, Guns ‘N’Roses, Contract Aesthetics, Full time vs part time. It’s a long one, so strap in and get a brew. Cheers to Dave Long and Gareth Eccleston for the player stories!"

I've just noticed that I had the wrong embed code on your custom Podcast page, binny, which was the individual code for the Stopforth episode only - I've now altered it so that it will hopefully have the latest episode at all times from now on.

Excellent episode, binny.
Regarding the Vardy 'near-miss', it was actually before the 'who should we sign' fiasco - it was when Simpson came in for Jim post-Admin that we could have realistically signed him if you remember. Wasn't he at Manor Farm waiting for a trial when Simpson binned him off? I'm open to correction on this, though.
Another great listen, mate - keep up the great work!
