Evening.
In preparation for the finale of Quiz 74 this coming week, I need to clarify a few points to avoid confusion.
As things stand, The Main Standers are in pole position having travelled 190 miles, and the Cheadle Enders and Pop Siders are right behind them on 170 miles.
Whichever team crosses the finish line first, wins. I could go into the various possible scenarios we could encounter, but I'm sure you can work them out yourselves.
In terms of the Bergara cards, it goes without saying that the sooner you choose your card next week, the more chance you have of it making an impact if you uncover one of the three Bergara cards. The three cards will work slightly differently next week, as follows:
Super fuel - Your team moves forward 20 miles, but they will be added on immediately, not at the end of the week. If the Main Standers uncover this card early on, and before either of the other two teams have got the right answer, they cannot be beaten as they only need 10 miles to claim victory.
Detour – Choose an opposing team to send via a diversion, placing them 10 miles farther back. Again, this will take effect as soon as you choose which team you want to inflict it on. However, if you pick a team who have already reached the finish line, they cannot have 10 miles deducted as they have finished, so the card will be wasted. If this card is found and used, I will inform the team affected that they have been sent via a diversion and are now 10 miles farther back. This doesn't necessarily prevent them from winning, but it will make it more difficult!
Puncture – Previously, this has worked by freezing an opposing team out of the quiz for two days, until Wednesday of the following week. This will also take effect immediately this week, so the sooner you have played it against one of your opponents, the greater the chance of them being frozen out until Wednesday morning. If you don't uncover it until Wednesday it is worthless (even finding it late on Tuesday is going to limit it's power) and you can't play it against a team who has already crossed the finish line.
For the detour and puncture cards, I won't be telling the team playing the card what impact, if any, it has had on their chosen opponents. You'll have to wait until the end of the quiz to find out all the twists and turns.
Hopefully that covers everything, but any additional queries please send me a PM and I'll answer any questions.
Good luck everyone - get some rest, because every second will count once that first clue goes up on Monday morning!
