If you believe what Clegg says we could have another election by Christmas!
That is a great story about your gran mate! Made me feel a bit emotional mate! Glad she got to see it!
My late Grandad (Mum's dad) and my Dad never really got on until my Granddad's later years but despite only being 7 at the time I remember a great excitement around the house as the results came in.
I saw them hugging and drinking together for the first time I remember and it was also the first time I did an all nighter!!

As I said I don't really remember it but it sounds like Blair was very unfortunate that the worst ever terrorist attack in history and the subsequent war happened under his reign.

It didn't help, but shifting too far right didn't either. Having said that, I'd have a post-Iraq Tony Blair back in Number ten over this chinless Bullingdon tw## any day of the Millennium!

it went in front of parliament and about a quarter of labour mps voted against. however the tories were also in support of it. robin cook later resigned as a result. the WMD intelligence was dodgy, and according to this memo, both britain and the us had already decided to go in regardless. i don't have any particular problem with blair either. he was a politician for those, and especially these times. lots of people including many labour supporters loathe him, and the way britain went into the iraq war certainly tarnished him. Perfectly summarised there, ars.

In 5 years, we'll have a Prime Minster called Chuka! the headlines in the sun every day for his whole term would be "chuka can't" about anything and everything.

I think Umunna probably needs to be careful about who endorses him. Mandelson crept out of the woodwork in the Observer on Sunday to offer his support

Andy Burnham becomes third candidate to declare Labour leadership bid:Andy Burnham has become the third candidate to declare he is standing to replace Ed Miliband as Labour leader, promising to restore the party's "emotional connection with millions of people".
The Shadow Health Secretary follows Chuka Umunna and Liz Kendall in the running, with Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper also set to join the race.
Announcing his leadership bid in a YouTube video, Mr Burnham said he was the right person to take over a Labour party that was “uncertain about its future,” insisting he could reclaim lost voters because he “understands their lives”.Full story here

The 'middle England' he speaks of doesn't exist , it's a myth. There are a smaller number who are comfortably well off, but then you have the majority that are the 'doing alright at the minute' bunch; good job, decent house, couple of cars and a bit of wedge tucked away. They're more of a pseudo-middle class, they're virtually there, but it'll only take a slight pull of that Wilton rug to bring them crashing down on their arses. They're the ones who seem to have given Cameron carte blanche to dismantle what's left of our dignity.
However, without appealing to them we may as well vote Socialist Labour, because they're never going to win power either. I'm a socialist, always have been, always will be, but I know I have to be realistic. To govern in the interests of everyone you have to appeal to the interests of everyone, it's as simple as that, but the Labour Party needs the 'lefties' like me to lend them perspective and let them know when they're drifting too far away from their roots.

Very nicely put.
I suspect that they also need left leaning people like me who've largely deserted them due to their gallop towards right of centre and who now express their political views through organizations like 38 degrees and Greenpeace and other assorted local pressure groups like frack free Ryedale to return to the fold

I think I am technically middle England! Looking at where I live and that both my wife and I are professionals, albeit relatively poorly paid!
Neither of the main parties appealed to me with their election rhetoric; although as a teacher I am left leaning and very anti-Gove/Cameron/Morgan.
Working in an extremely deprived area of the conurbation I see at first hand how difficult it is getting and the thought of 18billion more in cuts is frightening.
My daughter goes to uni with a girl who is studying speech therapy, her first comment was well that's me screwed then!
Better go to work now I suppose.
