What is it with this numbskull government- they do not choose to show any understanding , empathy or direction with the retention of doctors or consultants in the NHS. This must be part of the plan to run down the NHS even further and privatise it. Most hospital doctors I know work long hours, considerably longer hours than they are paid. This is largely due to prep to be able to fit in more appointments each shift. Burn out is a serious issue. Nurses are not being retained and burn out. They are all saddled with huge student loan debts as the NHS bursary was scrapped by the Tories. These people are dealing with life and death situations and deserve a lot more respect than they currently get from the government. The term 'Junior' doctor needs to be changed as it doesn't reflect the experience these people have built up over the years. To say this is the final offer is like a red bull. I am sure the junior doctors will continue the strikes for a long time to come - such is the strength of feeling. It is little wonder that professionals are leaving to go to Oz, NZ, Canada, South Africa, Gibraltar, US where they are paid a proper wage and there is less stress.
And it beggars belief when they say they cant afford it, when they are considering scrapping inheritance tax.
It has been muted before about putting a penny on income tax for the NHS, yet nothing positive ever happens with the dinosaur Tories.
Yeah, but...

It's a question of priority. If you wish to maintain the fiction that this country is one of the world's major military powers then £31 billion for 4 nuclear submarines is clearly considered money well spent, and this is just for the bombers. It doesn't include the amount (approx £10 billion) spent on the hunter-killer fleet or the approx £3 billion cost of decommissioning the existing Trafalgar Class nuclear fleet and for what? The UK has 225 nuclear warheads in its arsenal and is unlikely to ever be in a situation where it launches them without the approval of its allies, specifically the US because of the potential consequences. To put it into perspective, Russia has getting on for 6000! Slightly more than the US. Getting rid of the NHS would be a feather in the cap of the swivel-eyed far right loonies who currently infect this country's body politic via the Tory Party. It would represent the final dismantling of the Welfare State and the Social Contract that developed after WWII. Unfortunately the nasty party has travelled that far to the right, its taken that f**kwit Starmer with it.

I'm sick of this f***ing government.
I've not been to see my family for over a month because I've been on nights, and the first weekend I'm back on days, we have train strikes.
No, I'm not blaming the strikes on those walking out, I'm blaming them on the government. They know full well that the longer the dispute drags on, the more likely it is that the public will start to turn on the striking workers.
Scumbags.

Here is something to get genuinely angry about. Don't let a Tory or any of their apologists/supporters tell you that the bastards are upholding your democratic rights, they aren't. If you want additional proof of the continued assault on such things by this increasing repulsive authoritarian regime, read this goodlawproject.org/trudi-warner-climate-jury-facing-prison/

Saw it this morning, WHAT A DISGRACE! They are dismantling British society one pound (or billion) in their back pocket at a time. When is the general election due, this year or next?

If there's anyone out there still defending this government, then they really do need to take a long, hard look at themselves.
It's not an issue of left versus right (or the spongey bits in-between), it's about right versus wrong.
If you can't work out which is which then you're just as bad as they are, but you'll never, EVER be anywhere near as rich, and they're pi**ing themselves laughing at YOU, just as much as they are at the rest of us.

I won't post this on the match thread, because I think it's probably best to keep the politics off those. For any exiled fans making the trip this weekend: www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/september-2023-train-strikes-b2402346.htmlIt's a ballache and means I can't see my family again this weekend, but what else are they supposed to do? What I will also say is that this article is trying to put the unions in a bad light, suggesting that they're PERSONALLY targeting leisure travelers, which really isn't the case - they're targeting SERVICES and we're just collateral damage, for want of a better description. It's the government and train companies that are the real shithouses. The unions have no choice and disruption has to happen with any strikes, otherwise what's the bloody point in walking out? What do the commuters expect? Drivers spending their days off work burning wood and holding banners in their living rooms and singing "what do we want?...... When do we want it?....." While watching f***ing Top Gear? It might piss their neighbours off, but that's about it. Well, they could set fire to their house too, but luckily for them the firemen aren't on strike. It's sh**e, but if this battle is lost, it'll be a bad day for workers everywhere, not just those taking action. Governments need to know they can't just treat workers like s**t and get away with it. I'm with these guys all the way.

I remember seeing a news article when they were striking on FA Cup final weekend, the interviewer implied threat they were doing it for maximum impact and it wasn’t fair on the fans. The lady replied, “Yes they are, but I don’t blame them I blame the government,”

Grant Shapps is a clown. He always has been, is and always will be and it demonstrates the sheer poverty of talent at the top of the Tory Party that he, along with others keep getting recycled into senior Government roles irrespective of how poor their past performance has been or how dishonest they may be. Of concern of an order of magnitude greater than that however, is the possible appointment of Nadhim Zahawi as the next Chairman of the Telegraph Group as a reward for services rendered after the assistance he has given to its owners, the Barclay family, accused of serial tax avoidance and some distinctly shady business dealings, in raising finance for the all but bankrupt group. The Telegraph Group is owner of the Daily and Sunday Telegraph as well as the Spectator so we have the spectre of a yet another senior Tory Party politician being directly involved in the forming of public opinion in favour if the Tory Party. The extent to which the Tories are prepared to ride roughshod over all previous precedent and unwritten agreement should startle even their own supporters. What is absolutely clear is that our unwritten constitution is coming apart at the seams, destroyed, like much else of the fabric of this country's society by a bunch of increasingly ruthless politicians hell-bent on forcing this country down a route that fewer and fewer people wish to go down.
