Went to the Workington game.
In some games a draw would even at home be a respectable result.
7 points from 9 this Christmas is indeed a refreshing change from our usual Christmas slumps of the past.
However I do feel some players looked worn out after 60 mins.
I know we don't have a large squad but I do feel we could have let those who don't normally get much if any game time at least start the game with more regular players on the bench.
Dickinson looked out of touch and wasn't as effective as he has been in recent games.
Duxbury MOTM award was rightly so he did indeed try to make an effort but for some I feel they were still tired from boxing day.
Considering the weather conditions and indeed how winter is a mentally negative time of year the chance to rotate a few players against a team who to be fair did try for about 60 mins to achieve a result but did shut up shop for the last 30 mins and didn't seem prepared to attack much.
The third sub timing was pointless, the youngster hardly got a kick of the ball.
This should have happened with 20 still on the clock.
Moke is not a right winger - despite a few attempts to use the wing space and crossed the ball in he simply ran out of ideas as to how to pass or cross into the box during the second half.
Sense would have replaced turner with dennis not moke.
Moke is effective as a left winger and has shown this to be in the past.
However Howard has been having some good fortune in front of goal and indeed his performance I thought was much sharper than most.
We managed to go from a lone striker to having four up front and still couldn't make it count.
Our most successful period as a club was when we played with proper wingers and two up front.
Corners.........always the same routine and no one attacking the space we all know its going to be put into.
Outswinging corners don't seem to happen here but then on the rare occasion they do no one seems to know how to attack those either.
This is an area we need to work very hard on otherwise we are going to miss out on goals we know can be scored if the setup is worked out properly.
Posts were left unguarded !!!
I am sure even in the ladybird book of tactical football they advise to cover each post !
A typical corner taken by county goes to the back stick almost every time and is about 2-3 yards from the goal line.
easy picking for the goalkeeper.
call me picky but if a corner inswinging is taken and is hit for a space at either stick then surely the distance from the goal line at which the ball must be aimed at is 8-10 yards out.
This is risky for the keeper to attempt to claim the ball as the risk of being beaten is much higher.
The keeper if he decides to come for the ball must be that much more certain he will claim or a simple header/tap in is on the cards.
wingers......for a while we haven't had any.
But if we persue this tactic then the idea to switch then during a match must come into play - make the opposition do something they don't want to do!
Workington used this idea very well and at time did especially down the right wing use the switched winger to attempt the cut in and pass for shooting - we didn't.
I thought - their goal aside - our keeper had a much better performance than recent.
the penalty - the first one wasn't a penalty the ball hit him on the hand, the player did not hand ball in any deliberate fashion.
the second one was a clear penalty and red card and the ref bottled it because of the hash he made of giving us the first one.
decisions should be made on facts as the game flows not based on refs who think they should "even up the score" just because one team is given a decision and the other team during the match is not.
...Bake for 15 mins or until golden brown.
