I bet he was gutted when his beloved Colwyn Bay got relegated. It's looking bad for Burnley too, May is going to be a nightmare for him, hopefully in more ways than five, or should that be six?! He's after votes in Scotland too remember, do any SPL teams play in Claret and Blue? We could be going into double figures here!

scunny are safe, but villa will lose the cup final, the hammers will sack allardyce, and burnley will be back from whence they came. as long as the claret (drinking) and blue (blood) of his party isn't successful though, the rest doesn't really matter.

Is this is true then it's another damning indictment of FIFA's greed, corruption and hypocrisy for granting them this tournament in the first place: Nepal earthquake victims' families prevented from leaving Qatar Fifa World Cup building sites to attend funeralsExclusive: Strict rules, known as kafala, mean that many of the 400,000 Nepalese employed in the country have their passports taken Tens of thousands of workers on the 2022 football World Cup in Qatar cannot get home to see their families and attend funerals in the wake of last month’s Nepal earthquake. Qatar’s strict worker rules, known as kafala, mean that many of the 400,000 Nepalese workers in the country have their passports taken by employers and find it difficult to get permission to go home. The international campaign group Avaaz has written to Qatari authorities demanding compassionate leave for workers with families affected by the earthquake; it has yet to receive a response. Sam Barratt, Avaaz’s campaign director, said: “We’re calling for these workers to be granted amnesty to go home. They are working on World Cup related infrastructure projects. Qatar was built with Nepal’s cheap labour; the least they can do is allow them to go home and grieve.” A Nepalese worker in Doha, who asked not to be named, said that his wife and children were now homeless: “My family lives in a village outside Kathmandu. Since the quake I have not been able to contact them… Two of my relatives in Kathmandu have died in the quake. My wife and two little children are sleeping on the road. I am desperate to go back… but I can’t leave because my employer won’t let me go. I can’t leave the job because I have to pay back the loan I had taken to get to Qatar.” Some estimates have put the cost of Qatar hosting the World Cup at nearly £140bn. There have been widespread reports of dreadful worker treatment, with fatalities last year reportedly running at around one a day – though Qatari authorities say they hope to abolish kafala this year. Avaaz is also set to meet World Cup programme manager CH2M Hill, the US parent of British engineering group Halcrow, about improving conditions for workers in the Gulf state. A CH2M Hill spokesman said: “We work with many NGOs and other companies in the industry and look forward to further engagement with Avaaz on this important issue.” The 'FOOTBALL FAMILY' hey?... I can fully believe it matey! I saw a documentary on workers conditions in Russia and especially Qatar in the build up to the World Cup. They literally have a quota for how many men they can afford to 'lose' each year!!! Its like theyre not even people.
I'm quite glad we didn't get the World Cup....the next two hosts have real problems with lack of infrastructure such as training facilities and stadia, racism, anti-semitism, sectarianism, islamophobia, xenophobia, sexism, human rights, terrible work conditions and in Qatar's case...a complete lack of football history!
Also given the last two tournaments were in racially divided, corrupt, crime filled and poor nations that simply couldn't afford to host it (after a bit of envolope stuffing of course!) I would be worried for our future if we met FIFAs 'standards' I would miss the tournament but Id love England and other influential nations to take a stand and form a breakaway organisation in protest of FIFA. Sadly though, it'll never happen...!

Excellent post, Fudgie, and your comment regarding not wanting us to meet FIFA's 'standards' was the icing on the cake!

So IDS (a man with FOUR children) still wants to cut child benefit to any family with more than two children, offering benefits to only the first two? Although sources say that Downing Street have thrown it out again, they'll already have other ways to cripple the working classes to save money for now, don't worry about that. Nothing but spin, because if Cameron needed to go down that route, he WOULD. How detached from real life and riddled with hypocrisy are these posh boys? www.theguardian.com/society/2015/jun/01/downing-street-rejects-iain-duncan-smith-plan-for-new-limit-on-child-benefit

Four people have been seriously injured in a crash between two carriages on a ride at Alton Towers in Staffordshire. Sixteen people were on one carriage of the Smiler ride, the other was empty. The resort said their first aid staff were on the scene and emergency crews were building a platform to help reach those on the ride. The air ambulance is also in attendance following the collision that happened at 14:09 BST. Eyewitness Ben Richardson said: "When the second carriage crashed people were screaming and shouting - even after it stopped. Everyone around the park ran over. "The people looked significantly distressed. It was almost like a car crash, very full on." Merlin Entertainment, which runs the resort, said in a statement: "There has been an incident on the Smiler this afternoon involving two carriages coming together on a low section of the track. One of the carriages was empty and the other had 16 guests in. "The Resort's fully qualified First Responders were on the scene immediately to assist with the evacuation which is ongoing, and the area has been closed to allow for access to emergency services vehicles. To ensure the safe and timely evacuation of guests a platform is being constructed. This will take a few minutes but will enable us to proceed more quickly. "There will be a full investigation once we have recovered the guests who are our priority." The Smiler opened in May 2013 and is billed as the world's first 14-loop rollercoaster. It holds the official Guinness World Record for most loops in a rollercoaster, according to the Alton Towers website. The resort claims that it features "a series of twisted psychological effects including optical illusions, blinding lights and near misses designed to mess with your mind". www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-32980354Hopefully all those injured will be ok.
