Being a fan of the 80's........i'm also a fan of 1979 as 1) thats the year i was born and 2) thats when Rapper's Delight was released and it is still one of my favourite songs today and I have he 14 minute version on my iPod which is regally played. I saw a programme once on Queen when they talked about stealing the "hook" (the "dum dum dum" bit) for their Another one bites the dust song.
RIP Hank,

Exile: like Eppers, I was eagerly awaiting your CHUMS insights for this week.
And, with there currently being a four-way tie at the top, you could also save Sandy a great deal of soul-searching grief by casting your S-vote before midday... get to it!

About half way through Fool the World, an oral history or a band called Pixies. and now i am too! they've just gone top ten in the uk with 'doolittle'. i seem to remember it going straight in at number five, and i found it slightly shocking and exciting, cos 'our' bands didn't do that in those days. not that they were my band at that point, just part of my wider culture. 'doolittle' was the first thing of theirs i bought, and from the sleeve and inner art (i was still doing vinyl at the time) to the immediate hook of 'wave of mutilation' and 'monkey gone to heaven', i was pretty smitten. as a result i've just ordered the 25 year release of 'doolittle' cos it has a disc of demos i fancy hearing. i've also been reading in 'fool the world' about kim doing breeders. i absolutely adored 'pod' but the last thing of theirs i bought was the brilliant 'safari' ep. i went and saw them at reading in '93 with my girlfriend at the time, and she bought the cassette of 'the last splash'. i never listened to it enough to get into it, and that was it for me, although i did have a brief renaissance in the early 00's, bewitched by having listened to the very lovely 'off you' from 'title tk' in st james's park (the london one not the toon) with an american girlfriend wearing an earpiece each on her new-fangled mp3 player... anyway, i've also just ordered 'lsxx' - the 20 year 'last splash' anniversary; because i think i should probably have given the original more of a chance, and because it also contains 'safari' and the other eps, as well as a live disc which features some of the 'pod' stuff. cheers -again- for posting about it.

joy division as a specialist subject on mastermind tonight! as was the big bang theory. i'm sure mastermind wasn't like that when i were a lad...
i managed 12 on joy division, the same as the fella who had, presumably, been practicing. i didn't have an audience and studio lights to contend with, admittedly.

Peter Hook and the Light Review. It was the day after Hooky's 59th birthday and he looks very well. They supported themselves with seven Joy Division songs. They kicked off with Atmosphere as a tribute to Steve Strange. I'll admit that I'm not the biggest JD fan as I think I was too young to appreciate them at the time but Hooky's vocals sounded good and the songs sounded more upbeat than I remember them. It was weird waiting for the "support" do an encore as we were expecting Love Will Tear Us Apart but it wasn't to be. They returned without Hooky at the beginning of their New Order set. Dave Potts on lead guitar, Hooky's son on bass, an extremely energetic drummer and the computer whizkid on keyboards. Every song was spot on although I would question why Hooky carried on with the vocals when everybody knows Potts' voice is a dead ringer for Barney's? All the usual favourites were greeted well by the Perth crowd although the three encore tracks got the best reception. True Faith was a most welcome surprise. Elegia stood out for me as it was just Hooky playing a six string with the slightest of percussion in the background. I've heard he's planning on touring with Technique next so I'll be keeping my eye out for that one. Probably Australia next year. Here's the track listing: (stolen from Twitter). Attachments:
