Thanks Rog.
Gazza dons the Mantle of Brilliance for Week I, coming up later. The entry was worth the long wait.
Nice one Gazzaman.

Cheers, Rog, there were elements of that story I didn't know myself until I rang my brother a few weeks ago to get the full details, the dog part and the part about his Nan haggling over £120 in particular!
I was still up against some fantastic stories here though, and even though mine was decent, I didn't think I'd win after seeing the stream of entries that followed. Superb additions to CHAOS archive, and I really hope we can get something done with these again some day.
Thanks again!

Here's one I have only just remembered - 24 years after it happened! It's nothing major, but I'll share it anyway... I've just been reminiscing with the Scouse half of the household about my younger days playing football and remembered a bloke who used to hang around at the old Ballpark Leisure indoor Football League that used to be up near Parfetts on Green Lane in Stockport, it was back in the early 90s. This guy used to turn up in what I think was a Tweed jacket and just hang around the place. I think he knew the organisers and ended up playing for us now and again throughout that year and his name was Derek. I remembered him telling us that he'd played for City and County in his younger days but we never really took him seriously and I was struggling to remember anyone called Derek that played since I'd been going, so I assumed it was either years before my time as a fan or he was just talking crap. Anyway, although he was clearly in his late 40s or early 50s he was still very, very good and seemed to know loads about the game. He was always talking to us during the games like a coach and whenever he played for us we never lost. This was in the days before the internet so I couldn't get online to check his story. But after recalling him today I just thought I'd Google for County players named Derek and found a couple of photos of a lad named Derek Hodgkinson who played for us from 1964 to 65, and after a few minutes studying the photos I realised it really was him and he was indeed telling the truth! Here he is being presented with his SCAN certificate in 2015: gogogocounty.org/scan/presentations/presentation665.htmlOk, some of you reading this will no doubt think "he's hardly George Best is he?", but as a County fan I was totally gobsmacked to find out that I actually played Football with a former County player and never even realised it. Even better is the fact that he actually thought I was a decent player myself. Needless to say I feel a bit guilty for doubting him now!

sorry gazz - i believe week 'h' has closed... always interesting though to hear about a fellow sufferer of the name 'hodgkinson'. sounds like the game wouldn't let him go.

Being told that you can actually play the game by someone that can actually play the game is the best compliment ever. My thoughts exactly, mate!
